On Wednesday, December 19, 2007, the Cauldron Leadership group met in the conference room at the K.C. Wizards offices. The main topic of discussion was creating Cauldron Bylaws and discussion of the upcoming Leadership elections.

The Cauldron Bylaws were completed and will be posted on the Cauldron web site.

As for the elections, here is what came out of the meeting:

It was decided that positions on the Leadership Group would be for a 2-year term, with re-election available. We will hold elections every January. Each year there will be 3 positions up for election, and the 3 positions will alternate every other year. This is to avoid a situation where we end up with an entirely new Leadership Group, thus needing to “re-invent” the wheel each January. The following positions will be up for election in January of 2008:

1. Cauldron President (incumbent – Robert Houghton)
2. Game-day Officer (incumbent – Matt Spoonmore)
3. Communications Officer (incumbent – Stu Bentley)

The election will be held as follows:
Shortly, there will be instructions for nominating people to the various open positions. All incumbents are eligible for re-nomination/election as we do not have imposed term limits. The Leadership Group will tally the nominations, generating the top 3 nominations for each open position. Each of the top 3 nominated people will be contact to verify their willingness to accept the nomination. If someone refuses the nomination, the next highest nominated person will be contact. This will continue until we have 3 validated nominations for each open position.

We will then hold an open meeting (at a time and location to be announced) in mid-January for the Cauldron members to vote on the three positions. Everyone will be presented with the three nominations for each open position, and the will write down their choice for each position. The votes will be tallied and a winner will be announced. Absentee voting will be allowed if pre-arranged.

As a side note, the Leadership Group decided to add three new positions to the Leadership group:
1. Youth Liaison (appointed position). This will be a High School or College student identified and agreed upon by the Leadership Group. This person will be invited to attend and participate in all Leadership Group activities and meetings.
2. Tailgate Liaison (appointed position). This will be a representative of the group organizing the tailgates, identified and agreed upon by the Leadership Group. This person will be invited to attend and participate in all Leadership Group activities and meetings.
3. Past President. This will be held by the previous Cauldron President. The idea behind this position is to help with transition and the add some consistency between the Leadership Group and the Wizards Front Office / the Cauldron

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or you can send them in a Private Message or e-mail (president@kccauldron.com).

Thanks,
Robert Houghton, Cauldron President

Starting today (12/31/2007), and running through midnight on Friday January 11th, we will be accepting nominations for the following 3 Leadership Group Board positions:

1. Cauldron President (incumbent – Robert Houghton)
2. Game-day Officer (incumbent – Matt Spoonmore)
3. Communications Officer (incumbent – Stu Bentley)

All Cauldron members, including incumbents, are eligible to hold any of the Leadership Group positions. All nominations should be e-mailed to Greg Zimmerman at vp@kccauldron.com. Greg will monitor the nominations and tally the final counts. Those nominated will then be contacted to ensure that they are willing to accept the nominations and potential election to the position. Upon confirmation, the top 3 nominations for each position will be published in advance of the actual elections.

Specifics as to date, time & location for the actual elections will be published at a later date, but will be sometime in mid-January 2008.

As with my previous post, If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or you can send them in a Private Message or e-mail (president@kccauldron.com).

Absentee Voting:

If you are going to be out of the Kansas City area or otherwise unable to attend the actual Leadership voting, send me a note and we will make sure you are taken care of with an e-mail absentee ballot. Rest assured, since my position is up for election, I will not be handling the absentee ballot process myself, I am simply coordinating the upfront request.

While we don't have a specific date identified, I anticipate the actual election to take place either in the evening during the week ending 1/18/2008 or on Saturday 1/19/2008.

As with my previous post, If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or you can send them in a Private Message or e-mail (president@kccauldron.com).

Thanks,
Robert Houghton, Cauldron President

The 2008 Cauldron Leadership Nomination process is complete:

While we received more than one nomination for each of the open position, the non-incumbent nominees for each open position declined the nomination. As such, the incumbents for each of the three open positions shall remain in those positions for another term.

I look forward to having the opportunity to serve as Cauldron President for another term, and being able to continue building upon what we have all started.

We, the Cauldron, are in a very unique position going into the 2008 season. We have been given an opportunity that most supporter groups never get: The chance to re-invent ourselves! We will be at a new stadium, in a new seating location, an ownership group like none other that “get us” and supports what we are trying to create. Gone are the days of heavy-handed Arrowhead security staff…we will have new, much more “user friendly” rules as to how we can show our support to the team.

What I would ask from you, the members of the Cauldron, is to step up and volunteer to help on one of the “project” teams: Communications, Community Outreach, Game Day, or any other one-off event/project we may execute this season. Whatever your talent, we can certainly find a place that will fit you! There will be a call for volunteers in the weeks to come as we finalize projects for the 2008 season. While we attempt to improve everything about the Cauldron, I hope that many of you will answer when the call is made.

This is your supporter group, your CAULDRON…let’s have fun this year and cheer our Wizards onto victory!

Well it should be a great year and I'm glad at least the Cauldron veterans didn't all get traded. :D We should have some good draft picks as well with the additional college and youth positions. Cauldron season tickets should be up, and hopefully the new venue will inspire some people to step forward in whatever way they can this year.

I'm already thinking about opening day stuff with a sold out Cauldron and how we can go about doing something memorable.

Were #1 and #2 appointed?

Good question.

#1: Youth Liaison has not been determined at this point. We have decided to expand this position to include a High School and College student. We have several interested candidates and should have a decision soon.

#2: Tailgate Liaison will be George Hanson

Actually, that is a very good point, and something I have been wondering about. I'll check with the group and let you know.

CJ was my homeboy!!! And yeah, my reign was more of a coup after Kevin got busy. A silent coup though, not a violent one.

I'm willing to help, that's all I'm saying.

Absolutely you should be Past-President, especially if you're volunteering. I mentioned this to Robert last week.

What's the pay? Because pension for Presidents is like $170,000 a year right now. I'm going to need at least 60% of that.
