Is it just me, or is the new rule that says players will receive a yellow card for taking off their shirts after goals going a little overboard? It's a part of the excitement. I think it should be allowed.

But then there is less TV time for the logos of the sponsors if they take off their jerseys. That's the reason. Not modesty. :)

That makes sense. I was wondering, because I can only remember one female doing that... and when guys do it, they aren't really showing much, are they?

soccerchick584 imagine u are a sponsor, and u pay big money to have your logo in some team's shirt, then when this team scores a goal, which is gonna be shown all over the country, sometimes over the world, u would have some comercial on your mark, then someone just take off the shirt, and u still pay the money but u don't have the comercial... do u think it's fair?!
But I don't think it's fair the player receive the yellow card for that.. they should just pay a fine...

I totally agree with that. I'm just saying that giving a yellow is somewhat extreme. I think a fine would do it.

I just wish they would have waited until after the Women's World Cup to put the rule in. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif

Brandi Chastain commented on this rule, and made it clear that if she made the game winning shot (or something similar) in WWC 2003, her shirt is coming off.

The ruling is geared toward time wasting. If the score is a tie or is close, the opponent wants the speedy restart.
BTW: the timing of the ruling came after some GUY took aver 5 minutes to put his jersey back on!

One more thing: The yellow card is for Unsporting behavior; for excessive celebration.
Let's keep the game moving.
