If you have the latest version of Itunes and Quicktime installed there is a slight problem. The bitrate is not consistant when you convert or import a song. If I import songs from a cd and set the specific bitrate it will end up giving me a bunch of different ones. Say I set it to 128 kbbp. I import bunch of songs and 1 will come out at 127. Another at 125. Another at 123. ETC. Very few will come out at the actual bitrate(128) I selected. Ditto if I set it to 256 kbbp and try to do the same thing.

Likewise if I buy any itunes plus song which is 256 kkbp and I set it to convert that song to 128 kbbp I get various flucuating bitrates as well. This is really an annoying problem. I read that its caused from a problem in the Quicktime software and Im waiting for Itunes to correct it. Downgrading to the previous verion of Itunes/Quicktime seems to fix the problem but I'd rather wait than do that.

I am not familiar with the software, but are you choosing to encode the songs with a fixed bps rate? MP3's are often (especially from music sellers) encoded using variable bit rate which is designed to average close to the specified amount. Maybe things are correct, and iTunes is just reporting a computed average instead of the goal average. And if you have a choice, choose variable bit rate, as that produces better sound in a smaller size.

Yes. I never had this problem with Itunes before, only in the current version(7.5)
