Robbie Savage has a column in each home match programme, entitled "You've been Savaged!" Each column features one of our lads, with Sav's "analysis" of his team-mates.

"You've been Savaged!"

Andre Ooijer

"On a Serious Note"

"When he first came to the club, I think he would openly admit that playing in the Premier League was a bit of a shock to the system. He took time to get used to the pace of the game, compared to the Dutch league, but after that he's done exceptionally well.

"He reads the game brilliantly, he's a goal threat from set pieces and I think he's really enjoying his time now in the Premier League, because he's adapted very well.

"He's a great person to have in the squad, because he's a top guy and I really enjoy his company. He's also hugely experienced. He spent eight years at PSV, has won countless trophies, has played in the Champions League and been to two World Cups.

"He provides great competition in the centre half department and at the minute he's in the team and playing really well. I think his game up at Sunderland recently [Sunderland V. Rovers, Win 2-1, Sep 29, 2007] was the best the best I've seen him play -- I thought he was awesome.

"He's not had it easy, because he broke his leg at a time when he was really playing well and showing people exactly what he could do. So it was an unfortunate thing to happen, but he's come back stronger and better because of it.

"Obviously we did our rehab together -- Myself, Andre and Reidy -- so it was nice to have two people of that caliber with you and we all helped each other going.

"Let Him 'Ave it!"

"On the flipside, we have a lot of look-alikes when it comes to Andre and we're not sure which is his best one yet!

"He's a cross between Jim Carrey and Barry Chuckle from the Chuckle Brothers. And to be fair, that was his motto when he first came to the club -- "to me, to you" -- because he kept on give the ball to the opposition!

"And then there's Steve Claridge and Roland Scholten (the darts player)... so we've got loads for him!

"But he takes it all on the chin, because he's a great lad really. When the banter does start to get a bit on top of him, he tells us all how many Champions Leagues games he's played in, but then when we mention the teams that PSV had to qualify against -- the likes of Hercules for goodness sake -- he does get a little bit touchy!

"And having been at the club for over a year now, I hope he's eventually learned what side of the road we drive on here in England, because I think he had a couple of crashes when he first arrived!

"Image Rights and Wrongs"

"I know I've said this about other players before, but his gear is absolutely minging!

"He's probably one of the worst dressed at the club. He wars these tight-fitting tops that even make me look fat!

"And what can we say about his hair?! It looked alright quite long when he joined, so I'm still not sure why he chose to go for the Barry Chuckle look!"

“You’ve been Savaged!”

Stephen Warnock

“On a Serious Note”

“Another bargain buy from the gaffer and for me he should be in the England squad – no question about it. I’m surprised he hasn’t been already and I can’t understand why he’s not even getting thought of!

“He works really hard in training and he’s come back from two broken legs. Believe me, I know just how serious that can be.

“He’s a very strong and committed player, and I think he would have made the grade at Liverpool week-in and week-out if he’d been given more of a chance.

“But obviously it didn’t work out for him there and he’s come here and done tremendously well. And I’m sure an England call-up can’t be far off!

“He’s a great lad, with a great character, whose level of performances from the day he arrived have been of the highest level. So the departure of Lucas Neill didn’t really affect us, Warny came in straight away and has proved what a good player he is.”

“Let Him ‘Ave it”

“On the negative side… we have a lot of look-alikes here and Warny’s best look-alike is unquestionably Quasimodo!

“He has a few busy days a year. He’s obviously in training every day, but he’s also really busy on the night of the 31st of October. He’s usually late for training the next day, because he’s out all night scaring the kids!

“He actually came into training on November the 1st and somebody said – ‘take your mask off Warny, Halloween’s finished!’ To which he replied – ‘I have!’

“He always takes the banter in good heart and people do say – and he’ll say it himself – that he’s got one of the best looking wives in football, which he has! So he hasn’t done badly for himself!

“We also call him the lizard, because when he laughs, he seems to stick his tongue out 1,000 times a second!”

“Image Rights and Wrongs”

“Well if D2 went out of fashion, Warny really would have had it, because that’s all he wears – these horrible bright coloured T-Shirts!

“He’d probably have to start turning up to training naked – and that really would be a sight for sore eyes!”

“You’ve Been Savaged!”

Benni McCarthy

“On a Serious Note”

“To score 24 goals in your first season at the club – and your first in the Premier League – is an amazing achievement.

“For me, he’s one of the best players I’ve ever played with. He’s got great feet, great awareness and is a natural goalscorer. He’s world class – it’s as simple as that!

“Off the pitch, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He’s polite, well spoken and will do anything for anyone.

“By his own standards, he came back for the start of this season and probably wasn’t 100% fit. But all credit to him, because after being left out of the squad for the trip to Sunderland, he’s come back as good as he’s ever been.

“For such a big name as Benni McCarthy is, he didn’t sulk (like I know I would!), he just got on with it and that just shows what a top professional he is.

“He’s won the Champions League and is South Africa’s all-time leading scorer – those stats speak for themselves!

“He’s had the same kind of impact here at Blackburn that Christophe Dugarry had at Birmingham – two top players!”

“Let Him ‘Ave it”

“What can I say about my good mate stinky?!

“Well for starts, I’m still wondering why he always takes a hockey stick into the shower with him!

“Benni’s got a lovely set of teeth and I’ve always thought he had a beautiful smile – and I should hope so too, because Aaron Mokoena tells me that they cost him a fortune!

“He’s certainly a man of many talents, because he’s even managed to keep a number one selling pop song in South Africa quiet! Well… not anymore! [See next post -- it took me a *very* long time to find it -- worth a listen and look (I guarantee!!)]

“And in football, having no calves might have been a hindrance to some people, but not Benni – because he’s still one of the world’s best. However, it has earned the nickname Benni Nocalfy!”

“Image Rights and Wrongs”

“Well he loves to copy me, because one week I bought a new car – a one off – and then the next week Benni turns up to training in exactly the same one! Matching interior and everything!

“So I must have something going for me at least!

“When it comes to style – he’s certainly got it! He’s actually a very cool dresser – one of the best in the club in fact. So I can’t fault him for that.”

Benni's contribution to the world of pop music...

"[TKZee's] next big release was in the run-up to the 1998 Soccer World Cup. In collaboration with Bafana Bafana and Ajax Amsterdam striker Benni McCarthy, the group produced Shibobo in June 1998. The song, which contained samples of Europe's The Final Countdown and featured McCarthy rapping on some of the lyrics, was an instant success. Sales topped the 100 000 mark in just over a month, a feat which made Shibobo the fastest and biggest selling CD single by a South African recording artist in history. They quickly became household names not just in South Africa but across the continent."
