Raton Ayala that c__ks__ker cost us the championship single handedly. Great fullback, well he certainly chose the wrong friggin' game to commit his 2 greatest blunders costing the argie nat'l team a much needed title.

Phil Neal (RB) and Emlyn Hughes (LB, and also a DM) were outstanding full-backs and should be added to these lists.

LB: Ruud Krol (Holland) and Paul Breitner (West Germany). The latter also played as an AM.

Amoros was a left back. For France, either Maxime Bossis or Patrick Battiston would play at right-back.

Giuseppe Bergomi- Played both CB and RB and was great for inter and his time on the national team.

Manny Kaltz and Paul Breitner - do they get any better than those two ?

Claudio Gentile and Antonio Cabrini, Italy's full-backs in the 1982 World Cup. ;)

Amoros was right back but could play at the other place too. Battiston and Bossis were center backs. On the left were Ayache and Tusseau.

I can't remember a great French left full back before Lizarazu. :o Maybe Gérard Janvion from the great St-Etienne's team in the 70's.

Roger Marche ! (I know it's a long time ago...)

Concerning Amoros he played the WC86 as a left back and as such he was named best defender of the tournament.

Concerning Amoros he played the WC86 as a left back and as such he was named best defender of the tournament. That's why I thought Amoros was always a left-back. From the France matches I've seen in that era, he played in that spot.
