He would be an improvement over Robinson and Carson, but I'd like to see Green get a shot in goal for good ol' Engleland.

Nah, although Almunia's a good keeper I don't think counties should be capping players who have only been playing there for a few years.
If Almunia had been here since he was 20 then there may have been a case.

Well he's only 30 I believe so if he could get capped in the next 3 or 4 years if Spain doesn't cap him.

As an Arsenal supporter, I'd say you'd love Manuel as your keeper. The man is passionate and puts it all on the line. It's quite obvious he loves playing in England, and he could be that rare player who really WANTS to play for the badge.
I say go for it!

The last thing you Englishmen need to do is putting foreigners into the national team. If you do you'll be *ucked in the dead end for good.
Kick your kids in the face 'till they drop the Playstation controller and start running after a ball, that's how it's done.

Plenty of good National team sides have integrated foreigners. Mexico have Zinha, Portugal have Deco, and the Germany strike partnership, Podolski and Klose are both Polish.

owen hargreaves was born and raised in canada. he never even lived in england until his transfer to manchester united last year, so i don't see what's so shocking about this.
if almunia wants to become a citizen and represent his new country, then he should be allowed to. and if he's worth a damn, the english fans will probably embrace him... just like owen.

Podolski and Klose have German roots (father or mother). Podolski moved to Germany at age 2 and Klose's parent's escaped communist Poland when he was 3. Both players grew out of the German youth ranks.

NOT THE SAME!!!
Hargreave also had English parents that moved to Canada a year before he was born. His dad played for Bolton Wanderers. Hargreaves also started his English career at the youth level (age 19) for the U21 English team.
Other than living in England for a few years, what makes Almunia English??
Many English supporters had a field day with Capello not being English, despite being a great choice to manage the English NT. Imagine the outcries by recruiting a spanish goalie to the NT simply cause he wasn't getting called up for Spain!!

Wrong...he would probably go for it!!!
"Spain have never called me. And, if other people want me, I have to study my situation and take a decision because it is good for me, I will not close myself to anything. I would be very pleased to take a decision that would make me happy and my family happy."

Well maybe this is just me but I think English is more of a state of mind.

A state of mind that may or may not include these symptoms: drunkeness, loudness, disorderly conduct, red-facedness, sporatic tea drinking, and the inexplicable reasoning that Wayne rooney is "world class".

I don't think Almunia would be nearly as good an option as someone like Ben Foster

That's where your wrong. if I was a stereotype I would be a won-ton soup slurping, rice eating, anime watching, chopstick loving, studies too hard Asian.:D But i'm not of course. Except for the rice and won ton part.
