O.k. someone had to start it, even just to tidy up all the other threads.
Benni Mcarthey, not sure why we would spend 10 mil on a reject of his age when Darren Bent would seem a better long term prospect. His only problem is lost conficence and Curbs would bring that back in a hurry.
Why would we need Giles Barnes? We have Mullins, Parker, Noble, Nobby, Ethers., Faubert and Dyer (did I miss anyone). Can't see it.
Forgot Dead Snake and Freddie.

Benni McCarthey can't buy a goal at the moment. I don't think he'd be worth 10 million anyway.

The mighty Quashie.
Plus let's not forget the deputising abilities of Spector, Paintsil and Dailly The Legend. :D

Gary Megson, the Bolton manager, criticised the 'transfer window' system on the BBC site today, and I agree with him. He says it's ridiculous to have only 2 months , set apart, to buy or acquire players etc, and this method only helps the richest clubs with big squads.
He's absolutely right! If a team needs to buy or loan a player at any time, they should be allowed to do so. Why have to wait 6 months for the opportunity of doing so? Megson would like to see it challenged in court. I think it is indeed a restraint of trade, and also prevents players from exercising their rights to move to another team, possibly earning more money, too. I wish someone would sue, and see what the courts have to say.

I believe the courts would say Premier League = Private club, private rules. FA = Private club, private rules. Football League? Guess what?

You may be right, Stomper, but they tried that argument and lost with the 'Bosman Ruling'!
The European Courts might very well say that this is similar. The players aren't allowed to change clubs; why should they be restricted, and the same applies to the clubs. Why shouldn't they be able to do business when and how they choose? The'private club' argument doesn't always prevail. But we'll have to wait for someone or some club to challenge it.

I think the argument would more likely go along the lines of "the transfer window is an opportunity for players to get out of a contract that they otherwise would not have. To make it so players could transfer anytime would undermine the point of signing players to any contracts."

I am not sure as the private league/private club argument would stand up because if that were the case then the foreign element could be legislated.
Of course, not all clubs would welcome that!

Back to transfers, who do people think will be leaving?
The obvious candidates are Quashie, Davenport and Pantsil but I think Boa Morte will be on the way out. Even with all the injuries, he has slipped down the pecking order and is behind Etherington, Ljunberg and Solano with Faubert and Dyer still to come back.

Noticed Bent not been included in sperms bench the last couple of games so do you know if he is injured or maybe they are just protecting him from getting injured before trading him. Still think he would be a good addiction at the right price

Robbo's prediction for January
Joey Barton takes a course in anger management and manages to anger everyone. Newcastle finally lose patience with him and, without much expectation, put him on the transfer list. West Ham buy him.
Well, I thought it was funny!

I think LBM will stay, he's mainly been used on the left and ony Etherington is regular competition in that spot. Naturally both are injured:o
I'm not adverse to a punt on Barnes, I think he has been played in all midfield positions bar defensive role and is supposed to be considered a good prospect.
Of the outs, Ljungberg but no one will pay the same stupid wages for him that we are. Football Genuis, Davenport, Quashie are others than need thianking for their services and shown the door.
Funnily enough Pantsil has been a star the last couple of games, we dedicated all our songs at the Emirates to him yesterday:D

And very entertaining it was too Hammerette, "He comes from Africa, he's better than Kaka", and to Toure, "You're no John Pantsil", loved it! :D
Agree about offloading Ljungberg, the bloke's a complete waste of space ("You can stick yer f**kin Freddie up yer arse", classic!)

I wasn't a fan of the transfer window when it came in as it saw us struggle even more before being relegated. But at this stage it's one of the few things which stop players doing whatever they want. Players are gradually gaining more power within the game and I am sure they would be happy to move from club to club every few months, with no respect for their contracts, if they were allowed to. With all the money in the game now we need some restrictions in place to control transfers, whether it be a transfer window or something else.
Boa should stay. He is one of only two left wingers and he doubles up as a forward when required. Managers love players who are willing to deputise and do a good job. I think Boa has done OK and we are still to see his best.
I am glad Paintsil is starting to come good as I always felt he wasn't given enough chance. Loved his overhead kick against Arsenal and I feel like he could be another utlility player in the making which may tempt AC into keeping him.
Davenport hasn't had much match time and probably won't get much more, which is a shame because he has always done well and given his all for us usually in difficult circumstances. But he is wasted in our reserves.
Quashie is a CCC player and belongs at a route one, hack and slash side so Sheff Utd can have him for all I care.
Ljungberg seems to huff and puff alot but rarely blows the house down. I think if we persevere with him he may hit some good form and we are in the position to do this as we are in need of fit wingers. If he has a full season without hitting form then we can review his position safe in the knowledge that we have three other right wingers fit (hopefully).
So I think we should sell Quashie, Davenport (reluctantly) and send Camara back if we manage to sign a quality striker (Bent or Defoe). Keep Paintsil, LBM and Ljungberg (for now).
