Watch out...LONG POST
My team:
_____________Reina____________
Alves__Carvalho__Ferdinand__Abidal
____________Gerrard____________
Ronaldo_______Kaka________Silva
_________Totti_____RVN________
Coach: Ancelotti
What i think the will be:
_____________Cech____________
Alves__Ferdinand__Maldini__Lahm
_____________Pirlo____________
Ronaldo______Kaka______Seedorf
_________Totti____RVN________
Coach: Ancelotti
With the 5 GK's who have been shortlisted, Reina should be at least 3rd in that list as he was EPL goalkeeper of the season, which puts him ahead of Cech and van der Sar, yet Cech somehow won UEFA club GK of the year. If this simple criteria was used then the GK spot should be out of Palop, Casillas and Reina...Palop was instrumental in Sevilla winning the UEFA cup, Casillas was part of the La Liga winning Madrid team and Reina got us to the CL final as well as getting 19 clean sheets in EPL, which i think is the most out of any GK in europe. IMO, these awards go to the 'better known' players so that rules out Palop (even though i think he is 2nd behind Reina) and Casillas did let in a few more goals than Reina.
The 4 players who have won the UEFA club awards...
Cech (club GK of the year)
Maldini (defender)
Seedorf (mid)
Kaka (forward)
...will all be in the team which is why i think they put Seedorf in the LM position in the shortlist as he clearly doesnt play 'on the left', he plays as an attacking mid alongside Kaka, but if he was in Kaka's category then he wouldnt be able to be in the team.
Carles Puyol and Nesta were placed at RB and LB respectively for a recent team of the year (i dont know what award it was but Terry and Cannavaro were at CB) so they were 3rd and 4th in line for that team and due to Cannavaro's absence from this list they are a big possibility. Agger and Carvalho are out of contention due their injuries and games missed and Carragher and Toure i just dont think will be picked...that leaves Vidic, Terry, Puyol, Nesta and Ferdinand to be alongside Maldini. I think that Ferdinand is ahead of Vidic and Puyol and Nesta are ahead of Terry. My gut then tells me Ferdinand will get the spot due to Man Utd winning the league.
RB: this will be out of Ramos and Alves...the former won the league and the latter won the UEFA cup. Alves just out-performed Ramos in the 2006/07 season from January till may and this is why i think he will be in the team
RM spot is out of Ronaldo and Messi and due to Ronaldo winning the league with Man Utd and scoring more goals they will pick him.
For CM spot Fabregas didnt have good enough 1st half of the year and Poulsen hasnt been as good as the rest. Gerrard and Essien seem to be even in the running for the spot but Pirlo will win as he has probably been just as good if not better and also won the CL.
STRIKERS: It should be out of Drogba, Totti, RVN, Ibrahimovic and Kanoute.
Ibrahimovic has scored the least goals in that list, ruling him out...and yes i know its not just about goals scored but Ibra scored 11 less goals than Totti and RVN in their domestic leagues and 5 less goals than Drogba and Kanoute in their leagues, which is a big difference. As Drogba scored same amount of goals as RVN in the CL and only 2 more than Totti in the CL then im putting Totti and RVN as the strikers...Kanoute playing in the UEFA cup and not the CL hurts his chances.
Thats my take...;)

Who I would want on my team if I was the manager and sticking with the categories given.
-----------------------Reina---------------------
Alves--------Carra-----------Carvalho---Lahm
Messi----------------Gerrard-----------Seedorf
------------------------Kaka---------------------
-------------RVN---------------Totti-------------
Subs - Ramos, Agger, Messi, Ribery, Essien, Fabregas, Drogba
But from all of the players creating my own formation I would do this.
-----------------------Reina-----------------------
----------Carvalho---Carra--Agger---------------
Alves--------------------------------------Lahm----
-----------------------Essien-----------------------
------------Gerrard-----------Fabregas------------
------------Messi--------------RVN

Did you read the thread opening...Mexes, Masch and Torres arent on the shortlist and Messi is a right-winger and has been put at RM in the team shortlist...you might want to revise this team
