For Mitter and Dodd it is a big step-up as they have been with the Centre of excellence this season and have only recently signed scholarships with the youth team for next season. It is also a very young and inexperienced side with only wright, Green and Fox having played in the first team

Final score 2-2.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 1st half after Pool failed to clear a corner. A pass from David Fox led to the penalty from which the Seasiders equalised. He passed to Carratta, whose run into the Rovers penalty area was blocked and a penalty was awarded, which Stuart Green converted.

After 25 minutes of the 2nd half Lewis Almond gave Blackpool the lead with a fantastic finish from the edge of the penatly area, following neat work from Carratta. With 5 minutes to go, Rovers were level.

The reserves next game is on Monday 27th April when they take on Burnley at Accrington Stanleys ground.

The reserves lost 4-1 to Burnley last night, and the result means that the Clarets were crowned champions. Not that you would know from checking Blackpool's official site, I had to get it from Burnley's official site. :(

The reserves last match of the season is at Bloomfild Road tonight against Morecambe, at 7pm.

Blackpool will again field a very young side with no first teamers and mostly youth team players. Gary Parkinson is using the game to give experience to several youngsters who will be joining the club on a scholarship basis next season.

Francesco Carratta will be given the chance to stake a claim for a place on the first team coach to Swansea on Sunday.

The trophy is likely to be presented at the first home game of the 2009-10 season.

Quite who will be playing in the opening game on Monday is anyones guess. Right now the 1st team squad contains just 17 fit players (and that includes David Vaughan who is playing with a broken toe).

There are two un-named foreign players on trial, so presumably if they are still around, they will play, but given that Ian Holloway will not want to risk some 1st team players getting injured I can see the reserve team on Monday being made up mostly of youth team players.

A very young, inexperienced Reserves lost their opening fixture 7-3 to Carlisle United.

First teamers Matt Gilks, Al Bangura, Joe Martin and Billy Clarke will play tonight, as will former Scottish Youth international Brian Gilmour. A 22 year old midfielder, he has played for Clyde and Queen of the South in Scotland and was playing in Finland until May 2009 with FC Haka. He is currently on trial with the Seasiders and is hoping to impress tonight.

Also included in the starting line-up are two first year scholars Biko Younda and Thomas Barkhuizen, with more on the bench.

So, whilst there are four first team players, again the Reserves squad is mostly young and inexperienced.

Blackpool line-up:

1. Matt Gilks
2. Ben Breakall
3. Jake Rooney
4. Al Bangura
5. Biko Younda
6. Joe Martin
7. Thomas Barkhuizen
8. Billy Clarke
9. Louis Almond
10. Brian Gilmour
11. Joseph MacDonald

Subs:

12. Adam Foster
13. Chris Kettings
14. Josh Roberts
15. Liam Tomsett
16. Adam Mitter

There was a late change to the starting line-up with the addition of a second trialist - French striker Vincent Péricard.

The reserves lost 1-0 last night.

Nicked from a fan who went to the game -

Pericard didn't really do much it has to be said. First half he looked lost, didn't seem to want to chase down the ball and looked lazy early on, generally.

Second half he improved, looked more lively but if he was pressured by the defence with his back to goal he ran with the ball into the midfield and lost it which could be dangerous in a league game. Don't think he had a shot at goal all game, or at least one that wasn't blocked by a defender.

Louis Almond, the other trialist (Brian Gilmour) and Clarke were the best players for us. Most of the play went down the right through Almond while Clarke and Gilmour were the main attacking threats from midfield. Gilmour playing short balls spreading the play between the wingers and midfield, while Clarke ran with the ball through the middle (or from the left) into dangerous areas. He had a glorious one-on-one in the first half but shot wide if I remember rightly.

Bangura did OK, a LOT of over-hit long balls over the top though, but solid otherwise. Likewise Martin at centre half did well. Gilks commanded his area well, too and captained the side. Vocal throughout!

And about five weeks later, the reserves are finally about to play again tonight. They are away to PKE, with the game to be played at the QED stadium, the home of Northern Premier League Division One North side, Bamber Bridge.

Kick-off is 7:00pm and the game will see the return to action of midfielder Ishmel Demontagnac following his torn hamstring. Ian Evatt is on the bench following his hamstring strain and is expected to play the second half.

On loan defender Marcel Seip will make his first appearance in a strong line-up.

Ouch, The Demon received a straight red card for a head butt when he had a second half penalty appeal turned down. :(

Ian Holloway interviewed after the game, his first taste of the Blackpool vs PKE derby said,

Yes it was a very lively encounter and I can't wait for the first team game if tonight's game is anything to go by! There were some harsh challenges, some almost fisticuffs, a couple of strange decisions and a sending off, so it had the lot really!

Speaking about Demon's sending off and also a very open and honest opinion on the game, Ollie said,

It totally marred the win in my opinion, but you can't always get what you want in life and you don't get what you deserve. Did their keeper deserve to have his great penalty save from Jay Thomas be made to be taken again? I don't think so, I thought the referee got that wrong. And then we should have had another penalty, a blatant penalty when Ishmel was fouled. Then he gets up and their player said something and Ish appears to have headbutted him, or certainly put his head towards him and that has really marred it from my point of view.

OK you want your lads to stand up and be counted, but not to be sent off.

Demon will now miss the next three first team matches, and Ollie spoke of his frustration,

It is very, very frustrating. We have taken him on when he was released by another club. He has had the frustration of sitting on the sidelines with injury after playing against Wigan and scoring his first goal for us. It must be frustrating for him, but at the end of the day he has to start learning and you can't do these sort of things on a football pitch I am afraid. But he will learn the hard way by missing three first team matches.

The final score was 4-3 to Oldham, but more importantly than the result was that Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Daniel Nardiello both played and scored.

Ian Holloway is said to be unhappy though with the performance of some first-teamers, as Blackpool lost to a youthful Oldham side despite fielding a number of first team players.

Blackpool goals were scored by Taylor-Fletcher (2) and Nardiello and
