I wrote up a petition that I plan to send to Fred Wilpon and any other potential NYC FC owners to show that we support them.
You can find the petition here: http://www.petitiononline.com/NYCFC/petition.html
Help spread the word and let's get as many sigs are we can.
I'll put up a counter on blog in a few days and already have an article (http://www.newyorkcityfc.net/2007/12/19/sign-the-bring-soccer-to-new-york-city-petition/) you can link people to that explains things.
Anyone with internet access can sign the petition (soccer or non-soccer fans alike.... New Yorkers or out-of-towners).

Yep, I was just thinking about that. It's a good idea. I would consider them "interested parties".

It is incredible. I saw that on Borough Boys my space the 18th December there was another Napoli fan ( SSC Napoli ), but the reason is simple : New Yor and Naples are on the same parallel ( 41st ).
In 2010 I will be at derby NYCFC - Red Bulls and will put a flag of the Naples near to the banner of the Borough Boys.....

So I guess thats why my family chose NYC when they came over here 100 years ago :). Great job as usual Kubah,we should put the link to this petition on other threads.

I am pretty sure you can do it from the same computer if you have different email address.
PetitionOnline.com should pick on spam and fraud though.
Thanks to the mods for the sticky!

color me pro-NY (for the first time in my life).
red bull does not represent the city of new york, they began as NY/NJ and never played a game in NY. RBNY is cool for the south new yorkers (not sure of the geography), but c'mon, theres a reason the NY islanders and mets exist. its the type of city that needs a rift. where you can glare at a guy 40 feet away for wearing the wrong colors. look at the lonely and lowly knicks...
as soon as they start having to choose sides there, its gonna get really effing interesting. especially with the beautiful stadium being built in new jersey.

Ok im willing to stop mentioning the state thing if you are willing to admit that a second team in the "region" would do wonders for soccer in the area and the country. Can you imagine thousands of traveling fans going to RBP and Shea(or whatever it is lol). Also when Philly is added it will be a real deal northeast sports area: NE,Dc,Phil,NY,NJ. It will be the heart of American soccer and there will be a good number of away fans at all the games.

Metro played in NJ Meadowlands because it was the only place they could play at when the league first started. They spent years looking for stadium sites in NY proper from the Aquaduct to Flushing to Long Island. They always wanted to be there since day 1, but unfortunatly there was just no feasible option to get a soccer stadium built in the late 90's.
They represented this entire metropolitan market since 1995. When the announcment came it was the old NY Centuars supporters and Long Island RR and other NYC clubs that started ESC. So it was very much a NYC team and NJ team as well since it was the ONLY top flight pro soccer club in the entire area. Fans from both sides of the Hudson supported it.
So when we hear people like yourself go on and on about how the team "ain't NY" and other nonsense like we are a "Jersey" team and thats why you can't support it. It reaks of snobbish excuses and a convienant reason to not get behind it. Its like you guys just all of a sudden started liking MLS, and when you found out your local team meant crossing the Hudson and was called Red Bull you decided you were just too good for that.
If it is going to happen it will, this silly petition crap isnt going to change anything. You guys running around like Sons of Ben isnt going to change anything. All the imprtant decisions and discussions will or will not happen completely independant of you. Stop thinking your difference makers in this process, fact is Wilpon and Garber dont need you to hand them a petition, they probably have 1000x better handle on potential NY expansion than you do.
My predicition is NYC2 isn't happening anytime soon. They would like it, they always have, but there have always been reasons why it just never worked. Wilpon's interest is only tacit thus far, there are still NYC markets rights till 2010 held by RB, there is still that age old issue of stadium building in NYC, and there are about 3-5 other markets right now that have better plans and are farther along. In fact i could see NYC2 only coming around after the intial expansion freeze of 18 teams.
So enjoy chasing and supporting an imaginary team, while decent soccer is being played under your nose. And stop calling us "New Jersey" you f*ck stick.

I personally would like to see a second team located in NYC so there'd be a bit of a state/team rivalry going on between RBNY and the second team; the MLS needs more derbies - we currently only have one, thats between my LA Galaxy and Chivas USA. One problem you would have to watch out for is building a second team too soon - that could start eating away at RBNY's profitability and market presence, something which would adversely affect the MLS as a whole.
The name "New York City FC" is too long imo and not really original - you guys should have something better. It would be cool to have a name that harks back to the time of the Brooklyn Dodgers when teams were named after the borough they were located in, but for image and publicity purposes, that could never be, I know. It would have to be "New York" something.
I think the MLS should follow the Toronto model and make sure a franchise (and city) has a SSS built as a prerequisite to being given an official team. Coney Island is currently undergoing a massive redevelopment - why not have the stadium located there? It could really revive the place, make it somewhere families can go to have fun on weekends.

Why does it matter if they are the New York, New Jersey or Connecticut Red Bulls? And I'm not sure how a team "reaches out or markets" itself to one state or group of fans and not the other? We have the same proximity of different states/districts here in DC that you guys have up there. We as United fans would love to see them get a stadium deal done in "the city", but if they don't and play their games in Maryland or Virginia, so what, who cares? We're just glad to have a team to support and cheer for, who cares "where" they play. I would be glad to have a team to support unlike a lot of other soccer supportive markets out there that have nothing!
I agree with what Onionsack said, it would be cool to see the rivalry of 2 NYC "area" teams but I think your going to be waiting awhile until MLS expands to it other probable markets before they drop a 2nd team in the NY metro area. I bet if all the New York city/state fans would start supporting RBNY and pack the stands every week, you might show MLS how much soccer support there is in the area and they give your NYC team a little faster!

I think your right in your thinking and i think a lot of the problem of some people who are not familiar with it - this area thrives on rivalry - we have so many teams to choose from we have a rivalry in about every sport! All we know is rivalry
See - with DC - it might be different - i mean until the Panthers were brought into the NFL the Redskins were Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas teams. This is something we are not used to. Perhaps we are spoiled but we have more people in a smaller area!!
I want to see hte league grow - i love the game! I watch the leagues and i want our league to thrive and be respected but I also want a team in the Boroughs! It would be great for the league!

They don't call it the Tri-State area for nothing. Southern Connecticut and Northern New Jersey root for New York teams.
And Redskins, Carolina team's pre Panthers? With SEC & ACC college football? Doubt it. Or even Maryland's "team" with the Colts, Stallions and now Ravens... doubt it.
Even worse, I bet if "NYC2" was ever created, but could only play at Hofstra because they couldn't afford the land to build a stadium in Flushing, people would bitch that it wasn't "borough" enough. Much like people do with RBNY now.
Let's face it. It's tough to root for Metro/RBNY. Because they haven't been as successful as people in NY want, not a winner from the gate. But there is a New York team, even if they play in New Jersey. Because as many have said before, it wasn't a lack of want to be in the city, it was a lack of resources (in 1996) to get there.
You could do more for the league to grow by supporting RBNY and filling up the Meadowlands with 40K a game (not a hard number considering the local population), to tell the league there is a need for a NY2 team, then sitting here and posting petitions on BigSoccer.

Thanks for your input but we will do as we wish,no one is going to tell us or guilt us into rooting for a team that has no connection to us. People dont understand the loyalty the we have to our city,we wouldnt care if the team played in Hofstra thats in NY.I dont know why we have to defend ourselves for not liking a team that plays in New Jersey but calls itself New York, this is like the twilight zone...does anyone own a map??
