Does anyone think Capello will last the distance? I personally think the pressure from the english press will be too much for him. There are already complains that he is not english. They should at least let the dust settle before they judge! But I think that as soon as the team starts to fade and the press gets on his back he won't stand for it and he will grab a Spanish or Italian club job if one becomes available. Even if he lasts a year he still picks up £6m!!!!!!!!!

you didnt need a crystal ball for that call.
If picking lottery numbers was as easy as predicting mcSven failure I would be very rich.

I predict he'll do no better and no worse than Sven. He's very overrated as a manager and I do not think he'll be able to bring about the tactical and selection genius needed to make England win any major trophies. At least he should be an improvement over McSven.

LOL, true say, true say.. As soon as he got the job, I just knew we wouldn't qualify.
As for Don Fabio, I'm expecting us to get to the semis. I can see him being around for around 4 years at least.

You guys think the media in Italy isn't as harsh? or Spain?
The guy, along with Lippi and Jose, is one of the best coaches in the entire world. He'll learn the language, change the system, blood the players, and make a deep run into the World Cup.
He's no Sven...he has had ten times the success Sven ever had. He's won with every single team he's ever managed except one. 9 league titles in 16 years as a manager. Overrated? Are you kidding? Seriously....9 league titles in 16 years as a manager, and he's overrated? Are you a complete retard?

I have not seen his performance pre-Roma, but what he did at Roma, Juve and Madrid didn't impress me much. For one he is a flop in the CL; I know that he has won it at Milan before but he was clueless as to how to play the CL at the above mentioned 3 clubs. The fact that 2 years ago his Juve was 2-0 down in the second leg against Arsenal and yet he bunked his team for 90 mins shows that. Also, his player selection is no better than Sven, the way he played Diarra and Emerson together at Madrid is something I still do not understand. I would say that he was extremely lucky to win the league last season, Barca really threw their title away.
Of course his record demands respect, but to me Sven is a great club manager too, but at international level he wasn't able to push England to its limit. That is something I am expecting from Capello too; to me England needs a manager willing to take risks and field a more dynamic and creative line-up. Capello however is not that manager. He'll be like Sven and fill a negative lineup. Which wouldn't bring England a trophy.

You sending him to a firing squad before he even has a chance. Sven made bad decisions in decisive games. I lost count on how many times we had a lead in the early part of the 2nd half and Sven went to the classic 1 lone striker and bunker ball tactics. In the end, Sven's poor decision making, personel call up's, i.e Walcott in the W.C.,etc.. led to his demise. I believe Capello has more of a "will to win" mentality, and I don't think he will make the numerous kinds of mistakes that Sven did. I may be wrong, but it sure as hell beats a Trevor Brooking-like managerial pick of Alan Curbishley..

My issue is this, how good is England really? Some very good players but come on, are they really top 10 material in the world? Maybe but I find England right now over rated. EPL is a great, great league but...................... it is because of the 60 percent of foreign players. I love Gerrard, Owen etc....... not sure how good England really is. Depth is great but from the FIFA rankings, a little bit better than US.

Looking back though, was it a disaster?
Let's face it - the English team is no where near as good as their media and fans would like us to think. In the end, Sven did a much better job than McLaren, with the same resources.
Sven took what is at best, an above average side, to two WC q/f's and Euro Q/f's...lets face it, the England side probably over achieved with Sven, not the other way around.
Anybody that thinks that the appointment of Capello will change that, is either dumb, or has red and white tinted glasses on.
The whole system needs a revamp from the youth level up - it really is that bad!

Well Sven while making mistakes I think was a very good manager and on the same level as Cappello. There were other bizarre choices for players that werent played in the WC by him above Walcott. I expect Cappello to be about the same (by which I mean the best we can get) unless of course we get some better talent through.
On Walcott it has emerged that he had that dislocated shoulder injury well over a year before it was operated on. I wouldnt be surprised if he wasnt unavailable because of that its something nobody spoke about till the operation. Bringing crocked players to tournaments is my biggest gripe with Sven.
I expect he will be a squad member under Cappello.
Cappello uses zonal defending too which should provide plenty of ammunition, along with his English, and foreignness.

Walcott was not ready to be there. Sven had better options that he left home..

I disagree had he been fit and i dont believe he was. Besides why continually single him out when there were far far far far far worse players selected that werent played.

I like Theo, I hope he come's of age at Arsenal, unlikely though, unless they push the quota through.

Your obvious club bias has you fighting a losing battle here.
Walcott was just an example I posed in my comment. There were several strikers that were in decent form, that got the shaft from Sven. Wenger suggested Sven take a player that even Wenger himself hadn't played much in his lineup, and Sven bought it.. Meanwhile, Bent and others who were getting regular playing time , and in from, lost out.

Theo is a quality player, I just think the options Sven had at the time of the selection, were better..
