Theo is a quality player, I just think the options Sven had at the time of the selection, were better..
well yeah, I watched him a couple of times at St Marys, he ripped Leeds to pieces, I just hope he gets a fair go at club level, that's all.

Yeah, I also hope he can get more first team run outs, or go somewhere he will feature in the first team.

I hope Capello work out, resume is good etc.... but........... you have to remember he dumped DB from his line-up last year and in desperation put him back into the line-up for Real. Most exciting last month for Real Madrid. Rudy and David basically won the league for the guy.

Reason why the Capello era may not be a success:
The English fans and media have unreal expectations for their team. They expect a top-eight finish and will only be really pleased with a top-four finish; when in reality there is little basis to expect such success.
Reason why it will be a success:
Being a quality manager is all about credibility. Capello's resume speaks for itself, and his no-nonsense attitude will get the players' attentions. If the players believe in the manager, they will execute the manager's tactics well.
It is better to be a coach with poor tactics that the players have faith in than to be a coach with perfect tactics that the players don't trust. In that respect, McLaren was always destined to failure, and perhaps Capello is destined for success. Just be careful how you measure it.

I have not seen his performance pre-Roma, but what he did at Roma, Juve and Madrid didn't impress me much. For one he is a flop in the CL; I know that he has won it at Milan before but he was clueless as to how to play the CL at the above mentioned 3 clubs. The fact that 2 years ago his Juve was 2-0 down in the second leg against Arsenal and yet he bunked his team for 90 mins shows that. Also, his player selection is no better than Sven, the way he played Diarra and Emerson together at Madrid is something I still do not understand. I would say that he was extremely lucky to win the league last season, Barca really threw their title away.
You're right he was a lousy Champions League coach but you have to remember that Capello comes from an old generation of coaches that naturally put more emphasis into winning domestic titles. To his credit his Juventus team wasn't good enough to win both Europe and Serie A and I remember that Arsenal game: Juventus were dragging their legs around like they had had just been through a turkish massage, Arsenal ran around them with ease. The Roma team on the other hand was his lifes work but keeping those players in order was nearly impossible. I applaud him for the way he was able to handle those imbeciles for as long as he could.
At Real Madrid he brought silverware when the organization was absolutely desperate....BOTH TIMES in the late nineties and last year.
He's the most cynical, egocentric, authority maniac coach in circulation but he's also exactly what the English NT needs.

Your obvious club bias has you fighting a losing battle here.
Walcott was just an example I posed in my comment. There were several strikers that were in decent form, that got the shaft from Sven. Wenger suggested Sven take a player that even Wenger himself hadn't played much in his lineup, and Sven bought it.. Meanwhile, Bent and others who were getting regular playing time , and in from, lost out.
On the contrary I think the anti Arsenal bias puts you in the wrong. Sven has proven he is a good manager. As said before why not pick out some of the other useless cvnts that werent played. I bet you couldnt even name them without looking it up.
Edit to add Wenger knows what he is doing as well and some of those being mentioned at the time as alternatives still wouldnt get in the Arsenal team. France, Denmark, and Croatia pick players on the fringe of the Arsenal team but its not good enough for England it seems.

Does anyone think Capello will last the distance? Depends. Are the English media and fans going to give him a chance to do anything without pissing down his neck everytime he stands in a pothole? I personally think the pressure from the english press will be too much for him.He isn't, but if that was the case, he's the wrong man for the job anyway. English football will one day (hopefully) find the right man who doesn't give a flog what the media thinks, doesn't answer to longwinded journo's, and picks the best players without regard for anyone else's opinion. I hope for their sake Capello is the man. There are already complains that he is not english.I wonder how many complaints there'll be if he sorts out the current mediocrity?
Not many I'd imagine.

I'll stand by my post as fact... We'll just have to agree to disagree and move on..

wenger can keep his gob shut.
On top of recomending walcott for the world cup (even though he rarely picks him) he also said that we should keep mcClaren as boss.
He regularly comes out and says things like..
"owners of english teams should be english"
"the manager of the england team should be english"
not bad theories you could say!!!
but when you ask him "how come you dont pick english players for your team?"
he starts coming out with "ooohh it iz not my problem ,i dont look at the passport of a player" and other claptrap.

Anyways, I think England are on the right track with this guy. A bit of outside perspective will freshen things up, get asses off the floor and players wandering. Provided Fabio isn't sucked into the usual media bullshit that every manager seems to have to put up with, I think it's the jolt that was needed.
In any case guys, have a great Christmas and a safe holiday season.
(But keep an eye on Sinner, he's bad news! :))

Walcott has played more games than Eduardo, Diarra and Bendtner yet has yet to be even put in the squad recently. Whereas the other two have played for their countries. But of course we shouldnt play him because he isnt played...
As for Wengers comments. When he is asked if a fellow manager should be sacked or given more time what do you expect him to say? No he is rubbish sack him and as for the English they are rubbish? Its the football equivalent of asking does my bum look big in this. He regularly comes out with it because he is regularly asked it along with will he manage the team himself. Ferguson has said the same as well.

Cappello uses zonal defending too which should provide plenty of ammunition, along with his English, and foreignness.
Every team in the EPL uses zonal defending.....

Tell that to Andy Gray and Alan Hansen. I mentioned it because of the bashing Benitez was taking for using it and the old "space doesnae score a goal".

They were talking about his use of it on corners against....NOT in the run of play. No team in the EPL uses a man-to-man marking system....they ALL play zone.

I have never argued with your point what I have said is that Alan Hansen and Andy Gray have singled out Benitez for his zonal marking they have also done it for in the run of play as well. They will do it for Cappello. Its the dumbing down for the viewers do you finally see my poijnt FFS?

No I don't. They (and you) are stating the fcuking obvious.....for some of their "dumb" viewers I guess....Every team in the EPL plays a zone....there isn't one who plays man for man and these days even the German teams hardly play man fo man with a sweeper anymore.

It will all depend on results and how he handles the relentless media........
Fabulous Fabio! England boss Capello can still strip off to tiny trunks at 61
Fun in the sun: Capello and his wife relax near the surf
