IIRC, Frank Lampard holds the record for most Premiership matches played in a row with 164. Isn't Friedel close to breaking that record? I don't remember exactly how many in a row he's been between the posts, but it has to be close, right?

Yes, Brad should be close. I hope the club does something special on the day.
While taking a quick look to see how many consecutive matches Brad has played, I found this summary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_records_in_England). Quite interesting.

Speaking of stories echoing...
We once had a bachelor party for Friedel. He ate the entire cake before we could tell him there was a stripper in it.
Friedel named the group Sha-Na-Na. They did NOT want to be called that.
He wears a live rattlesnake as a condom.
The BBC renamed Ruud van Nistelrooy to Ruud van BradFriedel'sBitch™Brad Friedel used the rib he ripped from Ugo Ehiogu to create a forty-second wife for himself.
After bowing out of the FA Cup to Sunderland, David Thompson, Andy Cole, and Corrado Grabbi went to Brad Friedel to apologize for their poor efforts from the Penalty Spot. Friedel told them that he had had been upset for a few minutes, but now that anger had passed and it was time follow the time honored tradition in America of "burying the hatchet". So Friedel pulls out an Iroquois Tomahawk and buries it in each of their skulls.
And this one:
The number one cause of divorce in England is lack of communication. The number two cause is Brad Friedel.
All of these, and many more, from the delightful site, The Saga of Brad Friedel (http://www.thesagaofbradfriedel.blogspot.com/).
We do love him here in the States, don't we?

While looking over some of the Rovers' programmes that I have, I saw a bit on Brad...
The November 03 match V. Liverpool was Brad's 125th consecutive start.
Since then, we have played:
1. Man Utd
2. Fulham
3. Villa
4. Newcastle
5. West Ham
6. Wigan
7. Arsenal
8. Chelsea
Our next match is against... 9. Man City.
So, to-date, Brad has played 133 consecutive matches. Our match later on this week against Man City will be his 134th. After that, we have only 20 matches guaranteed (although we could get more if we progress in the FA Cup). So, Brad won't beat the record *this* season! :(
So, what did I win for getting the info??? :D

My only *real* problems with Souness are related to his managerial decisions over Matt Jansen after his accident.
PS Souness also signed MGP!

i aint being funny but the guy road a bike without a crash helmit and was in a comma for a few days so if you are refering to him not playing you cant blame souness for that yes jansen was a great player and proberably a rovers great if not for the accident but some of it was jansens fault wasnt all down to souness his playing days was over the moment he had the accident i think we all knew that.

I do agree with you for the most part. I should have expressed myself a bit more clearly, I guess. What I meant was that Jansen didn't personally feel that he was ready to come back to the game as soon as Souness insisted that he did.
Jansen is well-documented in his belief that the reason he never regained even a glimpse of the form he had prior to the accident was that Souness didn't give him enough time to recover. Yet, this could very well be sour-grapes (or "Souness-grapes" if you will pardon the pun). As you say, I doubt he would ever have been a first-class player after the accident, yet it sounds like he wasn't given the proper time in rehab for a full return to form. At least psycologically...

It has been announced that Brad has signed a contract extension up to 2010.
That's great news!
Maybe he will break the record?
