Should stars like Rivaldo, Ronaldo. etc be called up for meaningless friendly games? I would prefer that Perreira would call up younger less experienced players for friendlies who aren't too exhausted by the European season or are actually motivated to play. Brazil has a lot of young talent. Robinho, Kaka, the Diegos, Carlos Alberto, and others who could play very well for the senior team. Whats the use of calling up Ronaldo if we know he isn't going to give it his best. Give someone else a chance. What do you think are the motives behind Perreira's selections?

Parreira's team will play 4:4:2 which is a diferent system used by Felipao, so we should keep on calling the best possible fot them to get used to the way Parreira wants the Selecao to play

Do you think the 4-4-2 is the best formation for Brazil? I think it might be better considering Roberto Carlos and Cafu are getting older and might not be as effective on the wings. I did enjoy watching the 3-5-2 in action though. I hope that Scolari calls up Robinho and Diego, they are too good to leave at home.

After some contemplation, I have decided on a good Brazilian lineup for WC 2006. I like Andre Bahia on defense (big and strong defender). I expect to see Lucio and Edmilson there too. I honestly don't know if there is room on the starting lineup for both Ronaldo and Adriano. Diego and Ronaldinho definitely need to be on the field. I doubt Cafu will be there but who knows. Any comments.
------------------Ronaldo/Adriano
-----Kaka/Denilson-------------Ronaldinho/Robinho
---------------------Diego/Rivaldo
-------------------Gilberto Silva/Emerson/Kleberson
Roberto Carlos-------------------------Belleti/Cafu
-------------Lucio--Andre Bahia--Edmilson
--------------------------Dida
The wingbacks push up aggresively much like in 2002. Players especially on the attack can switch positions.

My best XI for Brazil would be +/- like this:
---------------Dida--------------------
Cafu/Belleti--Edmílson--R. Júnior--R. Carlos
Kléberson--Gilberto Silva--Diego--Rivaldo/Alex
-----Ronaldinho Gaúcho--Ronaldo-----------
Since I don't know if Cafu and Rivaldo will be too old to play in 2006 I have included their possible subs.
I don't think Robinho should start for Brazil yet in 2006, but he's a sure sub-in like Denílson was in the previous WCs.
But of course a lot can happen in the next 3 years.
Lúcio doesn't have an ensured spot in my team cuz he's too irregular.
One thing I know is that Émerson doesn't have a place in my starting XI.
Adriano would make the roster but I would use him only if there are no other choices.

MigKiller,
I don't think a 4-4-2 is the best formation for Brazil.
1)Roberto Carlos and Cafu are not exceptionally great defenders, they push up too much and they should.
2)Potentially leaving Edmilson and Roque Jr. alone at the back during a opposing counter is dangerous.
3)I prefer my formation. A 3-3-1-2-1 if you will because there is more flexibility.
-The wingbacks pushing up, allow Kaka and Ronaldinho to drift around and to the middle while still maintaining pressure on the flanks allowing Diego who distributes from center but can also make runs into the box.

Hello klebersonfan, welcome to Bigsoccer!
We already have a thread discussing the possible lineup for the 2006WC, so I merged your post with it.
Good team of yours, but aren't you forgetting some people? Their names begin with "R"... ;)

Actually I was not thinking about Rivaldo exactly. Who's that other brazilian "R" that continues to destroy in Real Madrid? ;)
BTW, are you brazilian? What's your favorite team?

Won't Roberto Carlos be getting on in years by then too?
What other viable options does Brazil have at left back?

Kleberson fan,
I don't really agree with your formation/lineup. I don't see Denilson as a starter, esp. not in 2006. Diego in the defensive mid???? Where is Roberto Carlos??? Rivaldo, Robinho, and Denilson as super-subs for my lineup!!!!
Adriano (not the one from Parma), Junior, and Althirson are viable options at the left. I vote for Junior if he is needed to replace Roberto Carlos.
My lineup
-------------------Ronaldo/Adriano
--------------------------Ronaldinho
------------Kaka-------Diego
-----------------Gilberto Silva/Kleberson/Almeda/JB
Roberto Carlos------------------Cafu/Maicon/Belleti
--------------Edmilson--Alex---Lucio
-----------------------Dida
I challenge anyone to come up with a better lineup. This is OPTIMAL!!!!

I actually took the time to look it up and carlos will be 33 at the 2006 cup. That's really not that old, but with the depth with brazil has you'd think he wouldn't be an every match starter.
Seeing how he gets into the attack so much I wonder if he'll still have the wheels to be an effective wingback.
I hope so, Roberto Carlos is one of my favorite footballers.
I'd take a 33 year old Carlos on my team any day.

I'm Going with the same lineup as in 2002, a 3-4-3, or 3-5-2, they used both,

Roberto Carlos Diego Gilberto Beletti
Roque Junior Edmilson Lucio
Dida
Subs:
Robinho- He will be developed and more consistant by than
Alex
Kleberson
Junior-f Roberto Carlos is not available
Kleber
Not sure for who with back up GK

I really like Jon Pall's line-up but it's not gonna happen as long as CAP is coach. Does anyone really think that f u c k wit will play 4 attacking players? Between kaka, Diego and Ronaldinho, at least one of them will make way for another defensive midfielder. Look for both Gilberto and Kleberson to have starting positions. Say it again, Brazil needs a new coach.
I'm quite worried about both wingbacks. I think Cafu is already a bit slow getting back to defend and at 33, Roberto carlos will not exactly be a spring chicken, so I doubt if he will have the speed he now does and that allows him to compensate for so many errors. They will still probably be the best bets but the back 3 had better be sharp and upto it! I think Junior is an ok (not great) replacement for Roberto Carlos but from what I've seen of Beletti he does not come close to cafu. Never seen Maicon play, so no comments.
Does anyone know anything about the central defender Luisao? My club has been linked with him but from what I hear he's a little slow, not really international quality and definitely not in the same class as Milto (yes I know I should not be praising an Argentine but class is class), who we really stupidly did not sign (and which will come back and bite us when he plays spectacularly against us for Zaragosa and stops us from scoring against a team that has just moved up from relegation) :(
Btw, I think Edmilson has concentration problems. Most of the time he's really good but then he makes some really stupid mistakes.

From what i've seen of Belleti, he is very fast but does not have the same presence as Cafu had on the right wing. I don't think he defends well or is a particularly dangerous crosses. I prefer Maicon from the U-23 team. He made some great supporting runs, always got back to defend, took some good shots, and is a really big, strong player. I feel that Roberto Carlos will still be running up and down the left flank as always for the 2006 WC. I am not sure about Cafu or Rivaldo though. If I was forced to play with two defensive midfielders, i would play this formation. I have hearing great things about Alex from Cruzeiro, though I haven't seen him play very much.
----------Ronaldo
-------------------Ronaldinho
------Kaka
----------------Diego
----------Kleberson/Almeda-----Silva/JB
--Roberto Carlos----Lucio---Edmilson/Alex--Maicon
But I still prefer the 3-3-1-2-1 with wingbacks.
4 commited to attack, 4 to defense, 2 to shutting down play in the middle and linking to attack. Quick transition on the counterattack is a must. Counter would obvously be more effective with this formation.
-----------Ronaldo
----------------------Ronaldinho
------Kaka
----------------Diego
Roberto Carlos-------Defensivemid-----Maicon/Cafu
--------------Edmison---Alex----Lucio
Teams would be forced to bunker against this.

Maurinho of Cruzeiro seems to have greater 'thrust' than Belletti but whether he is as good generally remains to be seen.
