Very important match for both clubs.
For Werder after a hard week:
- close loss in Hannover (who played well) with biased ref Stark
- pathetic Werder performance in Piraeus
- fans, who are still waiting in Athens to go back to Bremen (strike)
For Leverkusen as team of the month:
- 5 BL wins in a row
- reached UEFA-cup round of 32
expected line-ups (kicker):
Werder
Wiese - C. Fritz, Mertesacker, Naldo, Pasanen - D. Jensen - L. Andreasen, Borowski - Diego - Rosenberg, Klasnic
Bayer Leverkusen
R. Adler - Castro, M. Friedrich, Haggui, Sarpei - Sinkiewicz, Rolfes - Freier, Barbarez, Barnetta - Kießling

Sanogo and Baumann are injured. Almeida is suspended. Mertesacker is back. A win and the Hinrunde would be pretty good.

1-1 Klasnic gets the equaliser!!! :D His first (of many i hope) bundesliga goal this season.
Bremen already make substitutions with Hunt in for Borowski, and Andreasen in for Vranjes due to injury..

FT: Werder Bremen 5 - 2 Bayer Leverkusen.
We share the same points as Bayern (0-0) but are still in 2nd place due to goal difference.
I'm pleased with the team's overall performance for this first half of the season and I hope we can continue scoring plenty of goals and improve on other aspects of our game for the 2nd half of the season and hopefully we'll have better luck with injuries.

What a great performance by Werder! Makes the embarrassment of last week's CL clusterf#ck a bit easier to handle.
It's good to see that Klasnic is fully back and is playing like a monster. I'm almost sad that the winter break is upon us since I would have enjoyed to see this sort of fire for a couple more weeks.

Very good performance after Schaaf made the substitutions.
I am especially happy for Ivan. :)

Even though some players will be back it will be tough after the winter break since it is well known that Werder needs at least 5 league games in order to gel. This season in the Hinrunde it took even longer because of the nightmare-preseason. The winter-break saved Bayern's ass.

The winter-break saved Bayern's ass.
I agree, Werder was in a really good shape in the last weeks,
especially at home while Bayern was "very greedy in scoring goals". :D
Anyways, now every player needs to work hard and don´t eat
too much food at X-max. ;)

(not to go off-topic, but...)
What the hell happened with Bayern anyways? They were looking indestructible early-on in the season, then slowly fizzled out as time wore on. I don't seem to recall them being decimated with injuries, suspensions or dramas, so I'm somewhat (pleasingly) perplexed. I sort of expected the opposite to happen with them - that they might stumble a bit out of the gates, but really gel as a squad after a month or two, and really dominate through their depth by now.
Not that I'm too terribly disappointed by it all (especially when Werder beats them in the ruckrunde in February  ), but I found this kind of interesting nevertheless.

After their first month of invincibility, more and more teams used the same tactics when facing Bayern: being ultradefensive and that's when Bayern had problems dealing with. The loss of Ribery in October/November did not hep matters of course, for it greatly weakened FCB's attack.
And, Bayern are certainly not the most clinical in front of goal - turn in to any matches and you would see they have massive amounts of shots and dominate possession completely. However all they got were low-scoring games and a couple of 0-0 draws.
Finally some dubious decisions by coach Hitzfeld as the season wore on, most particularly his substitutions and his insistence to use an out-form Schweinsteiger.
I think u might want to post this question in the Bayern boards. I'm sure they would reply with enthusiasm :):)
