It's been confirmed he's the new England manager, so I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to him.

"Why should I waste my time listening to people who are clearly less intelligent than me?"

- Fabio Capello

This is the kind of attitude we need to make those overrated tossers in to champions.

"The players have to know we are here to work, to be serious and professional, but I would not call it an iron fist."
After he banned the players' families from the training ground during part of his reign at Real Madrid because he did not want any distractions

"How can players of the level of Beckham or Owen have performances so different when they play for their national team? It is clear the shirt is very heavy even for those great champions. The manager has to be more of a psychologist than a tactician or a technician. There is a mental block - otherwise how can you explain their elimination from Euro 2008?"
Interview with the Sun

This one is good:

"You have to find a way to play according to the players you have in the squad. Never stick to only one system. I think that is the biggest mistake you can make. Many people think there is one only good system but I think there are many."
His response when asked if he had any advice for young coaches

---

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos on Capello's English:

"He's a person I know very well. He's a great professional with unquestionable credentials to do the job. He has a very distinct style of play. As far as the language barrier, I remember a manager's meeting in Switzerland and he was speaking in English. I actually think he speaks it quite well."

Sven was an OK manager for England, but yes, he was a coward. He'll rule the England team with an iron fist, and make those England players die on the pitch for him. Can't wait!

This is why I always knew Don Fabio would get the job, even when Maureen was favourite.

Got my tickets for the Swizzerlun game within 10 minutes of logging on this morning, so we might well see a half full Wembley, unless peeps go just to see the stadium :(

I know it's going over old ground and we've already done it before, but it again appears to me to be a kneejerk reaction - who else, other than Moronho did they consider, surely Lippi has the better credentials, doesn't he?

Which Ingerlishmen did they think about, can't have been many, it's all done and dusted so soon?

And Stuart Pearce - WTF has he done?

Don't get me wrong, I welcome Fabio with open arms - but couldn't we just have waited a little while longer, to see who was available?

It's the biggest upgrade at manager England have had in a long time. He is a proven winner, and gets the most out of his players. Heck, we could have ended up with Brooking's favorite, Alan Curbishley...

How many managers are there with a better record than Capello? The guy has 7 Serie A titles and 2 La Liga titles. Wenger is not going anywhere and Mourinho isn't interested. The only comparable manager likely to be available any time soon is Lippi.
Plus, bringing someone in now gives them 9 months to sort out the side before our next competetive game rather than throwing them in in the summer with one friendly to work with.

agreed. Lippi was also a nice candidate, but I am happy with this appointment.

English manager... Brooking is having a larf.

Hodgson would have been OK. Glad we got Capello though.

Capello should be exciting but how is he going to address the problems England have currently shown ?

CF Partnership - I hears he like a Target man and a #10 so maybe recalls for Heskey and a first one for Ashton. What does owen do?

CM partnership - He uses at least one Holding and England don't have one! Hargreaves may be employed in that role at first but with who ?

LM - Who can he exchange J.cole for if he loses form or can't work in his system?

GK - He may be a good manager but it still doesn't change the fact you don't have a consistent goalkeeper, he can't exactly buy a new one

Captain - ??? over that too...

He's got a great track record but I reckon even he will struggle to turn England around.

He was quick to put himself forward for the post once England had failed to reach Euro 2008 and it is something he has had in mind for a number of years.

Speaking in 2003, he said: "I am not interested in the Italian national team.

"I prefer to have a new experience, outside Italy. Between the national team and abroad, I choose England.

"For the language, the mentality. I believe I can do it. It is a dream of mine, something I have held for a long time."

<3 Fabio.

its his dream...
you cant question that.

Mikey10
14 Dec 2007, 05:47 PM
You have to ask yourself now. Would you rather have Maureen, who clearly didn't have his heart in it, or Fabio who it's his dream to manage us? Fabio is more proven than Maureen anyway. Let's all be greatful that he didn't feel insulted over the FA going to José, and said yes.

Capello was always my first choice but Jose would have been almost as good.

My first choice would have been Big Phil, but yeah, Maureen would have been good as well.
