Just watching Sky Sports News and they're talking about Capello already having selected several Italians for his staff.

What do people think on this topic? Does England need an English assistant? Is the best braintrust Fabio can muster the best choice?

Yes, in a sense it is the Capello team that has won much of his silver, (like Jose and his team plus 1 local) and to give him the best chance to suceed he should be able to pick his team, who he is most comfortable with and more importently who he thinks is necesary to get the best result and see his vision implemented top to bottom.

I think he will pick an English Assistent as well, which is importent, as the FA put it "in consultation with Sir Trevor" , but it should be Capello's choice in the end as to which he wants to work with and thinks will be of the most help and mostly likety to benifit and learn from the experiance. I don't want to see Shearer or Pearce forced on him if Capello does not thimnk they have the chops to do the job now and take over someday.

Yeah, that who I was thinking. Shearer won't do it, and Pearce isn't going to leave coaching the U-21's for it I don't think..

wouldnt mind seeing Pearce involving on some level as IMO the U21 coach and the Manager should always try to be on same page- especially with preparatoin of players, tactics, etc.

Adams was a disaster at Wycombe, although he did get some experience with 'Arry.

Shearer may be a good pundit, but has not paid his dues yet for me. Should take a job as an Asst. Manager and see how things go. He may be one of those great players-crap managers in waiting.

Franco Zola is practically half English. I'd love to see him around. Loved by everyone over here.

In the press conference today, Capello came out and said that whilst he has a core back-room staff of Italians, these are the guys he trusts, and knows how each other works, enabling him to get things done his way. However, the point he made, is that wherever he went, he tried to bring in people close to the club, so they could put in feedback with regards the culture surrounding the club, expectations, etc. So, in Spain, he had Spaniards who would feed in local information about Madrid, etc. I'd expect him to do the same with English assistants.

Also, Brooking wants to bleed him dry for his talent, to help boost training for future England managers. Though we have heard that old chestnut before!
