Wes Brown on his bike (http://nufcblog.com/2007/12/13/transfer-news/brown-on-way-to-newcastle-in-january/)

It’s looking more and more likely that Wes Brown could move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Wes Brown - positive on a move to Newcastle United

While Chris Mort has said that he doesn’t think signing one or two defenders would improve things much, we believe Sam (and Chris) would jump at the idea of bringing someone in with Premiership experience. As we know Sam was after both Brown and Silvestre in the summer, but Alex Ferguson did not want to lose either player.

Just how much cash is Big Sam allowed to throw in Jan. Sir Alex will always want something for him.

Newcastle Sign Swindon Town’s Ben Tozer (http://nufcblog.com/2007/12/15/transfer-news/newcastle-sign-swindon-towns-ben-tozer/)

He is a very promising English defender, who has been linked with a host of Premier League sides. Those sides include Everton, where he had a trial 2 weeks ago. Also Portsmouth are interested and more recently, Newcastle United have allegedly been interested in the 17 year-old.

The transfer of Tozer has not been confirmed by anybody yet, least of all Newcastle United, but we wanted to report these rumors, because they are circulating in Swindon tonight.

Ben Tozer is valued at around £1M, and would be part of Chris Mort’s new strategy of identifying young players early on, and then bringing them to the club to complete their football development. This mimics the way Arsenal have built their squad of excellent players over the last 10 years. Tozer did not play today in Swindon Town’s 3-0 loss to Brighton today despite being available.

Here comes the youth influx.

According to NUFCblog and Nufc.com we have signed Ben Tozer as Dirt reported last night and is now being reported in English papers for around 1.1 million pounds. We are also in the process of signing Zalaegerszeg’s 17-year-old defender Tamas Kadar who is Hungarian for 650,000 pounds. He played in the scrimmage that Duff scored in on Thursday and appreantly the back room staff came away very impressed.

Their are also reports that we are chasing Argentine international Diego Placente from Celta Vigo. He is a wing back and is 30, don't know which side he plays though.

Also being linked to us is Romanian Under-21 international defender Stefan Mardare.

The question I have about the winter transfer window is are we going to lose Martins. I know the African cup will take him for a month so that might deter people from going after him, but if we were to lose him for 13 mil, what do we do with that money? Defense? Winger? Just wondering if anyone else has heard or has any ideas of what we would do if a Chelsea or anyone for that matter takes him?

Thanks

I think we'll spend in January, I think/hope Mort's comments are to make the impression that there isn't a endless pot of gold for Sounadyce to spend, that would only put the asking price of potential signings up.

The other theory is that Ashley and Mort are not supporting their manager and do not want to waste excessive transfer funds with him if they are going to part company in the Summer.

Here's hoping.

Newcastle Sign Swindon Town’s Ben Tozer (http://nufcblog.com/2007/12/15/transfer-news/newcastle-sign-swindon-towns-ben-tozer/)

This from Swindon Town's official website (http://www.swindontownfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10341~1192181,00.html):

Young defender Ben Tozer will travel to St. James' Park on Monday morning for talks with Newcastle United after Town agreed a fee with the Premiership club.

Tozer was not included in the matchday squad against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday and will travel North with his agent on Monday to discuss personal terms ahead of a proposed permanent switch to the Magpies.

Mooted fee is 1.1 million pounds.

Looks like the Wes Brown deal is done, at least for January. He's out of contract after the season so we'll have to wait and see what happens over the close season.

Splashing the cash in January (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=489776&root=england&cc=3888)NEWCASTLE
Outgoing: The rumours persist that Michael Owen (Man City) could be on his way out, but far more likely is the departure of Shola Ameobi (Derby). Emre (Galatasary) has failed to cement a place in the side and may return to Turkey, while Stephen Carr (West Ham) is another to have lost his place and may search elsewhere for regular football. Nigerian defender Celestine Babayaro has also been let go.

Incoming: Brazil defender Edmilson (Barcelona) has caught Sam Allardyce's eye, but won't arrive until the summer. A couple of other defenders are on the list, notably Ben Tozer (Swindon), Alan Hutton (Rangers), Tal Ben Haim (Chelsea) and Ivica Dragutinovic (Sevilla). Andrey Arshavin (Zenit St Petersburg) would cost around £7million to bring some creativity to the side, so the Magpies may go for Oscar Cardozo (Benfica) instead, having missed out on Juan Roman Riquelme (Boca).

Just as a reminder of how much this writer sucks, he claims in the Bolton section that "New man Gary Megson has a chance to make his mark on the squad in January and he may help Abdoulaye Faye (Newcastle)...through the door."

I also enjoy the total lack on continuity in the article - players are listed as outgoing on their team's summary but not mentioned as incoming at the teams where they are supposedly going.

You missed this doozy as well:

"Liverpool incoming: A good central defender is key to cover the Reds' backline, with Steven Taylor (Newcastle) and Ezequiel Garay (Racing Santander) linked. "

I got an idea throw a bunch o' names in a bucket shake it up and when you need a rumor close yer eyes and choose.

oh wait:

"S*nderland Incoming: Indeed, Keane may turn to his former club for players in the form of Wes Brown, Jonny Evans or Phil Bardsley (Man Utd) to help bolster the club's shaky defence. Former Red Devil David Beckham (LA Galaxy) has incredibly been linked with a loan move back to the Premier League, but more likely recruits are Jason Roberts (Blackburn) and flame haired midfielder Steven Sidwell (Chelsea).

looks like he did that already.

A True tabloid korean news agency reports that one of the korean national offensive squad just signed the contract with Magpies as of 12/24/2007. Yearly salary will be 800,000 pounds His name is Jo, Jae-Jin ("JJJ" to be simple) who won the golden shoe a couple of times in J-League.

Still unsure about the validity of this report but it would be very interseting to see how that develops.
