So why did Liédson give up of playing in Ukraine? Because Kajuru told him to? ;)

Can anyone provide information about Robert and Jamelli? I know they are new to the team and that Robert came back over from Japan after having played at Santos last year. However, what are their characteristics? Can they fill the 'meia armador' role that we so serious lack?

Also, how is Rubinho compared to Doni? It seems that Doni was never fully accepted by the torcida, but how about Rubinho? Who is the better keeper?

I heard two rumors about Liedson's failed departure to Ukraine:
1-He failed the physical;
2-The two parties couldn't agree on a contract.
I believe the second one to be more likely than the first one. I wonder if they're still looking for someone to fill Shevchencko's shoes.
I often wonder where my old idols of the past: Neto, Tupazinho, Ronaldo, Dinei, Viola, Biro-Biro (I think he's in the Sao Paulo City Council last I heard)....
Corinthians has to cut down on their keepers. Don't they have like 4 or 5 in their roster?

I don't think any 'keepers after Ronaldo were very well accepted by alvinegros. I never thought Ronaldo was the God everyone made him out to be. Our current keepers are Doni, Jonatas, Marcelo and Rubinho. Jonatas and Marcelo are both youngsters out of the youth divisions of the team. It's really hard to evaluate Rubinho, he's only played 25 games since 2001, as opposed to Doni's 92 matches since the same year. It also seems that our current roster is filled with young hopefuls.

With no doubt Rubinho is best keeper from the squad.
Robert is a great player, certainly the team will get better. Yesterday game he played very well.
Jamelli is a good player too, will bring some improvement to the team.
With all these players, Corinthians will have a great team.

Do you think perhaps the problem is Geninho or the young squad that needs to mature?

I think that the problem is lack in playing together.
And that started to change in the game against Atletico-MG.

Former player Júnior takes over as the new Corinthians coach after Geninho resigned. Rivellino also takes over as the new manager-director of the club.

Junior and Rivelino join forces at struggling Corinthians

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) - Struggling Brazilian giants Corinthians appointed former Brazil international Junior as their new coach to replace Geninho who quit at the weekend.

Junior's arrival came hours after Rivelino, a star of Brazil's flamboyant 1970 World Cup-winning side alongside Pele, was taken on as technical director.

The 57-year-old Rivelino had made Junior's appointment one of his conditions for joining the Corinthians' management team.

Corinthians are in crisis after a record 6-1 loss to lowly Juventude left them tenth in the league.

Commentating on the plight of the youthful Corinthians line-up, Junior, a former defender with Flamengo, said: "I think that using youngsters isn't the solution."

Rivelino will take control after current head of football Edvar Simoes leaves at the end of the season in December, but the duo will work in tandem in the meantime.

Junior resigns as Corinthians coach after 10 days

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Former Brazil international Junior has resigned as coach of Corinthians only 10 days after being appointed, the club said on Tuesday.

Junior, whose memorable playing career included the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, became the third coach to leave the club this year. He is the 39th coach to fall since the 24-team Brazilian championship started in March.

His decision followed 3-0 defeats by Sao Caetano and arch-rivals Sao Paulo.

"Due to the necessity of victories and the small improvement until now, I didn't see myself as having the means to give a positive return to the directors and the fans," Junior said in a statement on Corinthians's web site.

"So, I've decided to present my resignation."

During his short stint in charge, which also included a 2-1 win at Vitoria when he watched from the stands, Junior had warned the supporters to expect difficult times.

I think I may have said it here or somewhere else before, but with the exception of Franz Beckenbauer, all-time legends never amount to being any good by the touchline. Honestly, I never saw Junior amounting to much as the coach for my club. A man with no previous experience can't be expected to carry such a heavy burden, especially in a club where supporters are very involved with internal club decisions. All we need is someone to make sure we don't get relegated before the end of the season and put this one behind us.

I thought it would be a good idea to bump this thread so the new Timão members can see it.

I'd been wondering why Corinthians did not have a nice stadium of their own. When I visited my wife (at the time, she was minha noiva) in Sao Paulo back in 1995, she took to me to to see SPFC's stadium (by sweet-talking the guard into letting us in to show the American - me! - what futebol Brasileiro was all about. Of course, her immediate family were Corinthians at heart (her cousins are SPFC-ers!), so I asked her to take me to their stadium instead. She refused, saying something about what a shame it was, or something like that (besides being way the hell out of the way) and I only found out later, as they took me back to the airport, what a dump it really looked like...

Point is, I'm glad they're getting something better, if not newer.
