When you look through all the highly regarded players, during their time at one club in particular they were "THE man" which that club then becomes synonymous with. Whether its Maradona at Napoli, Pele at Santos, Best at Man United, Platini at Juventus, Cruijff at Barca and Ajax, Maldini at Milan, etc, etc.

With Zidane... as a Juventino I can say that Alessandro Del Piero was easily the face of the club in that period, where the fans would put him over anyone else, even with the personal awards Zidane was winning.... I can't speak for Real Madrid but I'm guessing there is a similar situation with Raul/Zidane? Isn't that strange for much a highly regarded player, there is for sure an admiration of his talent but not a close bond as with say Del Piero at Juventus?

Maybe its because as a personality he isn't very exciting and is thus left as more of a figure for the France national team rather than a specific club.
