I was shocked no one created a thread on this game. Chimbo has the only goal so far near the end of the 1st half. I'm listening to the game online cause its not on FSC or Sentana. I'll try and keep everyone updated on the score.

Here is our line-up

* 01 Robinson
* 02 Chimbonda
* 20 Dawson
* 05 Kaboul
* 03 Lee
* 25 Lennon
* 08 Jenas
* 04 Zokora
* 15 Malbranque
* 09 Berbatov
* 23 Bent

This is our first significant win of the season. Citeh is a very good team and well organized. Hopefully this will give the players something positive to build on as we get into the busiest time of the year. I fear for our League Cup campaign as there was some controversy mentioned regarding the first goal. I guess I'll have to wait to see it on replay tonight. But I imagine they will want revenge at home. But who knows.

A win we really needed after what happened last week and with Portsmouth and Arsenal to play. Nice to see Defoe scoring.

Controversy indeed, we got away w/ offside as well as a hand ball. Nice to actually get a break for once....but the goal should not have been allowed.

Also nice that we were able to win the first game without Keano.

They will not get their revenge.

I will be in attendance, therefore I guarantee a Spurs victory.

Monday mornings are so much easier to cope with when spurs win, it gives a much brighter outlook on the week ahead

This was a game we should have won, but still, it's Ramos' first win of significance in my book. We have better players, they've played together longer, it was at the Lane, and both teams were without their most significant attacking player (Keane and Elano).

But they're a good side this season, so that makes 3 points a good result. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but I'm told Chimbonda's goal was a real break for us. I'll take it, we seem to be on the wrong end of that stick far more often.

Now let's start making winning a habit.

I just saw the highlights. Chimbonda was offside by a mile.

It was also a hand ball but we need a break to go in our favor after that crap that happened last week.

Saw the game on FSC later. The way I see it, if Wes Brown can keep out a Berbatov shot with his arm (and stay on the pitch), Chimbo can be offside and score with his arm :D

Liked what I saw of Boateng, and Kaboul has obviously been working on his defensive duties (but still has shocking distribution). Pleased with the way the whole team helped out on defence, Lennon even.

With a more offensive formation they could have given us a lot more trouble. Vassell on his own was not enough. I expect a much harder game at their place in the league cup but then we will have our secret weapon electrickeeper in the stands :D.

They are a good side and I'm glad they are doing well in the league, but I was shocked at some of the tackles. Dunne's challenge was worse than Keano's last week but he just gets a yellow. How the left back wasn't sent off for what he was doing to Lennon I do not know. And then of course there was Ireland.

when the ball hit the post from steed's cross....i felt a HUGE pain in my stomach...like here we go again....but then JD comes up calm.cool. and collected and buries it,with a slight deflection, needless to say what a relief!!!

we can certainly build upon this win...looking ahead to next 5 league games

DEC 15 Pompey--winnable,all contingent on how well we play defense as usual

DEC 22 @Arsenal--I think we can surprise them,but at least be good enough for a share

DEC 26 Fulham--shoulda won our first meeting,will certainly take all 3

DEC 29 Reading--they play tough,could go either way, but will come away with at least one point

JAN 01 @Villa--They are playing well,a point will be good away, but if we get Leds back..he will keep us together

I just saw the highlights. Chimbonda was offside by a mile.

I watched the replay on FSC last night and, to me, it actually looked like Richards (on the near side to the camera) was keeping him on. I didn't catch whether the ball hit his arm or not, but if it did, it hit very near where the arm meets the torso.

It was a bang-bang play and that I'm (obviously) glad the referees allowed. Still, we were the more dangerous side and deserved to win the game.

I thought the back was as cohesive as it's been in some time. And although their playing only one striker probably helped us, I'll take it. As Phillyspur said, the whole team played defense and was very active throughout our defensive side of the field. We were aggressive and decisive, a far cry from what we've been over the past couple months.

From the angles that I have seen Chimo was clearly offside, but the tele angles are not the entire picture and not the ones that the officials see, obviously. It appeared as though luck was on our side--that's alright by me, luck is an essential part of any successful campaign. We needed a break and we got one. That's the way the football roles, if you will. Defoe's goal was pure quality, I have defamed him much but am happy to eat my words (over and over again) if he keeps scoring goals like yesterday, if he keeps helping us get wins.
I agree that the defensive line looked competent today, except for the marking on Bianchi's goal; there was more team defense overall and I noticed that (most of the time) we tended to clear the ball with purpose. Kaboul still strayed out of position often, but no howlers so I shall take the improvement and be happy with it. We've still a ways to go, but I also agree with the sentiment that this is definitely something to build on--a win against a quality side, a win in which we showed our quality by making our advantage count (that's what winning sides do, right?). I think that we can beat Pompey, and really why can't we beat the Scum?
