View Full Version : What are financial penalties for bad referees? (Everton - Zenit game)

So I watched Everton Zenit match on FSC. Pretty nice match, with Zenit defending doggedly and being lucky and Everton attacking and playing some nice footy.

Then...

Icelandic referee Kristinn Jakobsson called a penalty AND a red card on a Zenit player, as he wonderfully defended a cross and put the ball for out of play using his chest.

The Zenit player put his hands waaay back, to make sure he wouldn't touch the ball.

The referee called a penalty (a bad call) AND THEN gave the red card, which almost never happens (usually a penalty is called with no card or a yellow AT THE MOST).

SCANDAL.

So my question is: how does UEFA punish bad referees, and what is the procedure? Do they have to be consistently bad referees, or is one terrible decision enough? Who is responsible for punishing referees or taking away their licence (names please)?

I sincerely hope that Mr. Jakobsson never works a European match again in his life.
