The english fans always occupy atleast half the stadium and buy tickets for matches that england have not even qualified for yet i think that shows more commitment to a team then just shwoing up at a training session personally.
yeah it was a great reception for the portugal team but you envisaged it as unlike any other team whereas i don't believe that is true at all.
I know the nr of immigrants and etc are several factors to consider when making a claim. Thing is, I've never seen any european nt arriving at a foreign country getting this kind of reception in a major tournament. We're talking about thousands of people, including hundreds of motards following the damn bus...
I'm not implying that they're the best fans in this tournament but they showed dedication nevertheless to travel hundreds of kms just to see a few minutes of a football team...that says alot and so far they have the advantage. They will lose it sometime later to the dutch or the supposedly hyped croatians so don't worry...

lol maybe i wunt use the same manner but yeah thats pretty much what i would say.
never meant that the support from portugal wasn't great or that england fans are all miles better just saying that depends which way you look at it and i just thought that many NT have things like what happened with portugal happening as good as it was.

I haven't read through the whole thread. England fans are overrated. Sure, they travel in large numbers, but their repertoire is limited and not very imaginative. Croatia has fantastic fans; very passionate and loyal. We saw that during the WC. Greece can be good as well, as can the Polish.

Italy certainly has the lamest support. The reason is obvious, their ultra fans don't care about the NT and what Italy has in the stands are tourists.
That's exactly the situation in Holland as well. The Dutch ultras look down on travelling Holland fans.
Ultras........ More like criminals. Football hooliganism is pathetic.

Smaller peoples have a stronger need for international affirmation of their respective countries, hence the bigger support.
Also, smaller and less wealthy nations usually have a history of tyranny at the hands of their more powerful neighbours (ie: Czechs, Poles, Croats). This can make them seem more nationalistic when they travel to support their national teams.

So the quality of a football fan is determined by how imaginative his chant is?

Im not going to start about whether or not England fans overated or whatever that is irrelvant especially as the team cannot muster up enough wins to get to euro 2008 but great fans surely doesn't mean you have a huge selection of songs. i mean whenever ive heard Croatia they have no more or less amount of songs then any one else. There just normally more of them singing allthough ive never seen them when there losing:((thanx england) or when there expected to win and don't so untill then i wont overly commend them. Its not that great for 6000 of them to come to england and sing there hearts out when they are already through. i eamn when they lost to macedonia or whoever it was the week before they where quiet as anything.
If you have heard all the england songs thats probably cause theres loads of them and there songs will therefore all come out and easier to hear all of them. Thats not really a bad thing in my opinion.

The England crowd at England-Croatia is the saddest crowd I've ever seen. No bias, no antagonism, it's my honest impression. And I've been to a few games, with both my club and national team. I know, my standards obviously have to be high, but that's not a bad thing.
And btw, it was the Macedonian game that actually sent us through (Russia losing to Israel at the same time) and we were actually celebrating despite the loss, there's no reason to make up stuff.
The first reason why I have no trouble openly saying that we are no.1 is that losing makes us sing louder and push harder unlike most (all?) of others. Football SUPPORTERS should be all about that, the number of chants and other stuff come second. And that's where most of them fail.

Ultras doesn't necessarily equate with hooliganism. It certainly doesn't at my club.

Oh come on, it's pretty funny. They've also hacked the Guardian and Daily Mail Euro 2008 polls. Result: 96% of the English population wants Holland to win it. Ha!

Well when we don't qualify for the euro champs and play that bad do you expect us to be singing as loudly as you.
Well when i was watching the macedonia match durin the amcth its was quiet that is what i was saying. im not saying croatian's arn't great fans cuz they are.
Well its much easier to sing when you are underdog then when you are favourite remember that. i have no doubt croatian fans are great but i am a leicester fan and we travelled to chelsea for a cup match 6,000 of us went and we totally out sang the chelsea fans dispite them beeing at home but i wunt say we are better fans cus its so much easier to sing as underdogs went your not expecting much or dont need to play well or win. I find that away fans are usually always better because the away fans usualyl containt the hardcore from that club who always sing when you get them alltogether it does sound better.
I just meant when croatia have as high expectations of there country as england and then get totally outplayed by a team supposedly not as "big"(i hate that kinda thought but with the england players and mainly are stupid media thats how they make you feel about countries sometimes. JT- this is a game we should win well thts gotta be pretty much every agme for england just shut the **** up jt) and carry on singing like they did in wembley then i'll commend them more.

It's all in good fun, but it does render some of these polls completely useless.

I can respect your view, but still can't understand it. You went 0-2 down and it was quieter than in a tomb full of mimes (Monkey Island copyright), although you have over an hour to score just two goals. Then you score the two goals and everything is great again. Then Petrić scores and again we have a theater atmosphere.
If I were we you I would boo those players for the rest of their lives, but AFTER they lost. We were down to Macedonia at home after the first 45 minutes, and the atmosphere was surely one of the reasons we turned the game around. When the match is over you can draw the line and do what you want, but there are no excuses for not sticking with the team for the 90 minutes. It wasn't really different with you in Zagreb, although I agree with your point about the away fans when being in large numbers are actually in a better position than the home supporters.

there where moments when it was 2-0 to croatia and wembley was trying to get behind them but i always think that the fans have to support the players as much as they can but its still a two way thing. Players have to show there effort in order to inspire fans sometimes. I mean it was hardly the fans in wembley faults was it. The england fans have to forget how awful something is sometimes and just sing but its very hard sometimes. Like i said its still not the same between england and croatia because of england expectations but yes the croats where much louder.
England fans are usually ok when there losing but when its a match of such importance like that match. They could have been alot louder but i just think england fans where so afraid of what was happening.
maybe they did need more support but its not exactly like england players don't get enough support sometimes i think that england fans don't help england players cause when the players see well over 100,000 fans coming from england to support them in germany i think it puts on a certain amount of pressure but the players should really see them fans and get some inspiration not that they ever do.
I know how hard it can be to sing your hearts out whne ur losing and playing badly especially after leicester's worst season in there history. I went to leicester v coventry which is a local derby and we where fighting against relegation to the third tier of english football for the first time in opur history. we lost the match 2-0 and while its was 1-0 and 0-0 we where singing our hearts out 5,000 of us which is a ******** of alot for championship away from home. we went 2-0 down and i found it so hard to sing cuz we played so unbelivably bad and had a peno given against for nuthin (even covo fans admited it wasn't a peno) the prospect of league 1 was going thru my head playing ************ teams like yeovil(no offence lol) whilst englands happenings were not quite as bad my clubs i can put myself in the people at wembleys shoes and understand why they just couldn't muster up much of a song. i mean when ur expecting better and u get nuthin its hard to back a team when u dont expect as much then its much much easier to sing. this is how i kinda see croatia england allthough im saure croats would be great even with extra expectations.
Anyway thats a little of subject may favourite fans are the 1.dutch just cuz its so colourful. The 2.polish and the croats when there singing, allthough i have to say that there is quite a large number of holigans in both these national teams not that and england fan could complain of course you will all say. 3. the germans when there singing its quite good especially when its against england. lol check out youtube u'll see england v germany fans in the streets of some city in germany for the wold cup its a great little sing off.
nt neccessarily in tht order
Is there a Dutch hack on these polls? lol
