Could people please stop talking about Alan Shearer as a future England Manager.

He's had one stint as a faux co-manager and has almost no resume in terms of managing football teams. He'd be as flawed an appointment as McClaren was. Possibly more so.

And while I'm at it, Redknapp and Pearce too. Redknapp had a pretty average time at West Ham, was shocking at Southampton and despite doing a decent job in the nothing-to-lose environment of Pompey, he's hardly done enough to make him a prime England candidate.

Pearce had one season at Man City where things went okay, but he couldn't sustain it and got sacked. Inspiring he may have been as a player, but so was Bryan Robson. It doesn't necessarily make you a good manager.

We've had enough managers who 'might' be able to do it, how about one who has a proven track record. O'Neill would have been a good choice, but he doesn't want it.

If Mourinho isn't just trying to make Real Madrid jealous by flirting with the FA, he'd be a prime candidate. Tactically astute, a strong motivator, winning mentality, track-record...

Capello - maybe, though I'm not sure how much he knows the Premiership and if his tactical approach would suit the style of our players. Though these are minor concerns and he'd probably do a good job, I can't help thinking that he could take us down the same route as Eriksson - all tactics and game-plan, no style or passion.

But again - NOT SHEARER.

Shearer has to prove himself at club level management to see if he has the gift for management. Appointing him for England would be insane.
He is content to work for the BBC as a panelist anyway.

He needs to prove himself at Club Level before he trys and international Teams and i am sure he knows that aswell i can't see him thinking he can have the England job as he has hardly managed a club.

I'm not sure if anyone here has ever brought up Shearer seriously. Not sure what paper started it but yes it's silly. Nobody in their right mind is seriously thinking Shearer for England.

No way shearer is in line for England manager job. Big Sam is about to be sacked and shearer is taking over NUFC.

Don't know, doesn't matter since Allardyce isn't going to be sacked

Great player doesn't automatically = great manager.

He could be a good manager, but I would still think club level would
be better. Look at Tony Adams, he was at Wycombe!

Not only was he at Wycombe, he was an abject failure there.

I guess the counter example is Klinsmann who, with no prior club coaching experience, took a not that wonderful German team to the semis in '06, although admittedly with hosting advantage.

i hear adams is working with redknapp at portsmouth.
I think he is the type of guy who would be good in the backing staff .
I would like to see him and mourinho together in the england setup

i agree that shearer shouldn't even be in the frame for the position. We need an experienced man at the helm.

While I think that Shearer shouldn't be manager there's also a niggling worry that we don't ever have the bottle to go for an inexprienced manager. Klinsmann wasn't all that bad, or van Basten and who was that young manager who knocked us out of Euro 2008?

I'd rather we went for inexperience than a yes man.

Just a thought.

And when was Hoddle shit? Completely off his head yeah, but when was he a shit manager? There are a lot worse, and I say that as someone who didn't like him all that much.

Hoddle had good tactics.
Terrible at man management. He alienated the entire squad.

I agree and 1 more thing, it seems that his skills on the pitch
when he was a player could never be explained or taught. He is
one of those guys that just does it and doesn't know how
to translate his success so others can do what he did in the
right emotional environment.
