Just wondering, why the rose in the crest? I've looked but cannot find any explanation. Thanks!

started in the 70s when the owner at the time was a huuuuuge Bette Midler fan.

just kidding of course.

It's the red rose of Lancashire .... but I prefer Parrothead's theory

Which in turn is England's red rose because we beat Yorkshire in the War of the Roses and put our bloke on the throne.

Lancashire la la la Lancashire la la la etc

Not that that's got anything to do with it, just thought I'd get it in there for the benefit of any Yaarkshire people.;)

On the subject of Rovers traditions, here's something I was wondering about. According to the website:

The club's colours were influenced by the fact that several influential club members were Old Malvernians. Thankfully the green and white quartered shirts became light blue and white under the influence of the Cambridge educated members of the club.

The colours went from green and white to blue and white. Fair enough, but with the name of the city being what it is, how is it that black never became the team's colour?

I imagine someone must have considered it, but after so many previous alterations, maybe the club thought it should stick with the kit it had, finally.

Black and red form our away kit half the time, anyhow, so keeping the blue and white halves ain't really a problem. On top of that, it's quite unique. It's as exclusive as Bristol Rovers or Peru, or Coventry Chocolate Brown.

actually doesn't some team in switzerland have the same white and blue halves for their home kit?

Yeah Grasshopper Zurich, except their blue and white's the opposite way round .. ermm ... not that I'm anal enough to know stuff like that.

We played a UEFA match -- I think last season -- where the opposing side had nearly the identical home kit that we do. If memory serves me correct, their away kit was also similar to our home kit, so when we played them at home we were "ordered" to wear our away kit. However, I may be completely wrong about the above. Does anyone remember???

Sorry to say I can't recall the other team.

I don't remember that, but FK Leotar of Bosnia have had the same home kit as us in the past and a white shirt, blue shorts away kit that would clash, so perhaps them (although it'd probably have to have been a very early round)? They have blue and white vertical stripes now though.

Lorca Deportiva in Spain last year had the same home and away as us this year, only with the colours reversed (blue on the right instead of left, etc.). Like Leotar, they've switched to stripes now.

In Argentina, both Newell's Old Boys and Colon de Santa Fe have our away kit as their home kit.

I think that was a pre season friendly against Hertha Berlin ... not sure though, it's all a bit hazy.

I don't know about that. I thought Hertha played in green/white, and white/green.

It's a strong possibility:rolleyes:

It could have been a dream. Like when I dreamed we lost 4-0 against Villa. Imagine my surprise to realise I was actually awake.

Hartlepool play in blue and white halves now. Not that interesting but I'm trying to redeem myself after the Hertha fiasco. They do play in green and white... It was a dream by the way, I remembered there were elephants on the pitch too.

...and England had qualified for Euro 2008. And Jessica Alba was there, and I won the lottery.
