I believe Billy Wingrove was/is one of the best. He has tutorial DVD's out now if I recall correctly and signed a bunch of deals with large companies. The video above was great, hard to believe that people could be better then they. That stadium trick was mind boggling.

tsatsulow is amazing and creative, thanks that stretch the freestyle football standard even higher.

there is of course the team sport Chinlone . . .The origins of chinlone may be related to the ancient Chinese game of cuju or tsu chu, which is acknowledged by FIFA as being the oldest form of soccer.

I'm new to freestyle, but I've done a little research and watched quite a few clips lately. Very cool stuff!
John Farnworth has actually beaten Mr. Woo in competition at least twice now, though looking at their performances I can't really find much separating them. They're both extremely smooth and have virtually perfect ball control. Perhaps the difference was that Farnworth showed some basic airmove combos while Woo did none of that and didn't even perform the rope trick.
Here's Mr. Woo at Eurobac 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPqb-4FQnC4
And here's John Farnworth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwB4KpRnCeM&feature=related
But besides control freestylers, there are also the tricksters who can pull of unbelievably difficult airmove combos and tend to be much less elegant and versatile than JF and Mr. Woo. Guys like FX here:

Both types are awesome in their own way.
