We've had several defenders linked with us over the last week and the trasnfer window closes at the end of the week, we really could do with getting one now.
However it seems Sam has taken a leaf out of Alex Ferguson's book and now has someone training with us who could really turn our season!

A Move for Emerson Thome is unlikely. I'm really beginning to worry now, we knew at the end of last season that our defence needs strenghtening and the fact that we've signed no defenders since then is beyond a joke.

So you almost bagged Rebrov, but for the Home Office's messing about.
Regardless of Hodd's complete mishandling of him, I never really thought he looked like he was going to fully adapt to the Premiership. Not enough pace, strength or dribbling ability.
But saying that, if Sam could get him fit and sharp, then as an option to play up with Jardel, he could have been useful for you.

Alas he would have been good, we'll just have to settle for Glen Little instead....

I am confused with what Sam has done -
I know Gartside isn't helping things - but we are still desperately thin at the back and now with Facey out on loan we only have two fit strikers (Youri is really an advanced MF) and one who may be fit in December - I guess Stylios or the young Portuguese lad could be cover if things got very stretched
Sam's been bitching about lack of depth but then he goes and loans the little depth we did have (not that it's high quality) away (Facey, Walters, etc.)
In Sam I trust but it's all very confusing -
Anybody think Ba and Lassissi may still be coming (I assume both have been released by their former clubs and are not subject to the transfer window)

Desperately, desperately thin at the back, we have one recognised left back and he's currently injured. I can't understand why we've not even tried to sign cover for that position. God help us if Laville or Thome go down with an injury. On the plus side we have 3 right backs
Sam seems to see Davies as our striking solution at present with Pedersen behind him in the pecking order. I don't think either will score many goals but Davies is looking to be a good player and will be good back up to Jardel should the podgy Brazillian ever get fit.
As for the midfield I just don't get it. Why do we have so many quality midfielders when the rest of the team is paper thin? What was the use of bringing in Glen Little, a right sided midfielder when we have Stelios, Gardner, Nolan and Djorkaeff who can play there?
The BWFC website says Ba will be offered a contract, but this is what's pissing me off, he's a right sided midfielder we don't need him!
Farrelly can go to Burnley at no loss to us, we've got plently of cover in his position and he's crap anyway. But Delroy Facey? I'd love to see him get a chance up front but he hasn't, perhaps the move to Burnley is to keep him match fit but IMHO he should get the chance up front from time to time.
Lassissi is a no-no according to the Bolton Evening News, I'm not sure why but short of him having just one leg I can see no reason for us not to sign him. Let's face it we need him.

I am not happy with the gaffer -
Let's face it, the only time we as a club have ever played premiership quality football was at the end of the season last year when we were fighting for our lives and the key to that run was Sam using a 3-5-2 with two legitimate wingbacks
But Sam took no steps to help us keep/gain personnel to continue using the 3-5-2 - he went out and signed an overweight striker and an attacking midfielder when the only missing pieces from our team during the stretch run last year were a left-sided center half (Gudni) and a fantastic right-sided wingback (Mendy) - I can't tell you how much we miss Mendy and it's obvious Stylios is not a wingback - remember how long it took Bernard to learn that role
But it's obvious with our midfield and lack of firepower up top that we need to be playing a formation with lots of pressure up the wings - does anybody out there think we've got the players to go back to the wingback system -
We can go three at the back with Bruno, Laville, and Thome and Ricardo on the left wing, but who plays the up and down right wing role (as mentioned above Stylios doesn't look up for it, Ba is probably too old to chase up and back for 90 minutes - can Little play that role? (haven't seen him much)
What do you lot think?

I think Sam's problems have been more in the tactical department rather than signings although I can't understand why we have so many midfielders and few defenders (Strikers are costlier so a lack of them is understandable) He and he alone cost us 2 points against Blackburn and why he uses Pedersen instead of Stelios I don't know.
Still I think Jardel is a great signing, when he's fit he'll tear teams to pieces and that's not bad for nothing. I'd rather him spend a few weeks getting fit than spend a couple of million to jump straight in.
I also agree that 3-5-2 would be an excellent option because we have the midfield talent to make it work.
We've performed very well in all but one game, it'll be interesting to see if Jardel makes an appearance in the Boro game. It's one we really need to win.
