Ive been a long time reader of this forum and decided why not get involved!

A little background for me:
Im a young grade 7 in CT, Ive been refereeing since i was 11 and absolutely love it. I take it very seriously however and i hope to go as far as possible in my career.
I know several of the posters here and i have probably seen a few others of you in my travels.

Some of my recent events:
2007 Region 1 ODP tournament
2007 Super Y-20 National Championships
CT referee academy and camp

I will be traveling to the sunbowl in a little under a month, i would be interested to see if anyone else on here is going.

ive always loved following along on this forum and am excited to finally come out from the shadows

Relax camp, you're position as Official Kid Brother is safe ;). Although ctreferee is taking my title of most obsessive-compulsive, right bud?

My son's been begging me to let him join the board. He'd have you beat, Campton. He's 12 now, and got his Grade 8 when he was 10.

I think you'd still keep "little brother" status here though...

Bring him aboard then! How did he get it when he was 10? My SRA has a 12 yr old minimum. I joined at 11, the minimun that was changed after my first year.

He received special permission from our then SRA, and was able to score a 91 on the test his first try.

He absolutely loves to ref, and is considered one of the "up and coming" youth in Colorado.

This question isnt really meant to be demeaning or anything, but how do you guys get so interested in reffing at a young age? I remember when I was that old my only interest was playing any opportunity that I could, don't you guys lose a lot of opportunities to play soccer because you are reffing. I remember playing almost everyday. Games on Tues + thurs, tournaments on the weekends, and training the other days, perhaps sunday or a day off between matches. Do you guys not play soccer or do you somehow balance the two schedules?

Dont worry about demeaning me, if you havnt noticed i've made several parents of females and female referees angry on this forum (if you dont check out sissy play: game management). :). I got into it for the money at 12. Then i just realized how fun it is to be the man in the middle, instead of the one yelling at the man in the middle.

I still play competitively. During the h.s. season I'm done with soccer after 5, which leaves times for higher level female matches for AR. During the season, i play in the NISL premiership league, therefore i play on wedsday nights.

Training: Tueday, thursday, some mondays
Matches: Wed

Referee: Weekend.

I guess it also depends on what types of leagues are available to ref in.

Where I live and grew up, there leagues that I now ref in are the same ones that I previously played in: Club, Travel, Amatuer, HS and College.......so it would have been tough to do both

I have to agree with our lil' bro...$$$ is what called the loudest...at first. I got my first badge when I was 13 (the youngest allowed in VA at the time...lo those many years ago). I played select in the NCSL in DC and then in high school...and played American football in HS and college.

What happened with me is that I would referee for a while and then have to step away for various reasons...which is why I'm still a Grade 08 but carrying twenty-some-odd years of experience. I have had the pleasure of five different Grade 08 entry-level courses, though LOL:rolleyes:.

I'm sure my match schedule is much heavier than campton's now (I work 10-15 matches per week normally) but I can understand how difficult it must be for him to find time for everything...and at least he doesn't have to work some $7/hr J-O-B.

Mom's making me get a job this winter. Hello indoor. No way in hell am i working minimum wage for some random corporation. I might as well ref for my clubs indoor facility (which does some 8 days daily on weekdays, almost 25 on weekend-days)

I can pick up 5 matches on a sunday afternoon and pull 25 from each 40 min match.

I think i wanna be an MISL referee :).

It's hockey with a ball. And you learn quickly not to be distracted by soccer balls whizzing inches from your head at 40 miles an hour. And you're ALWAYS in the way...ALWAYS. Unless you imitate NHL officials like I do and hop up on the boards. The 12 year olds love it when I do that. The 17s just think I'm weird.
