I was doing research and I read about RBNY new stadium will cost
from 180-200 million.
Citi Field will cost about 600 million.
The difference is crazy and considering how nice of an SSS red bull park will
be. This got me thinking that an SSS for our team wouldn't cost as much as all the other stadium building going on in the City right now.
Citi: 600Mil
Barclays Center: 3.5 Billions for the entire project.
New Yankee Stadium: At least that of Citi, the City allocated Billions for
Both Citi and Yankee Stadiums.
Now consider this :
Toronto FC's BMO : 62 Million
Rapid's stadium: 130
Toyota Park : 98
Pizza Hut Park : 80 etc...etc....
It seems that SSS are very inexpensive, the problem is (especially in NY)
Real Estate.
Where should we put a new Stadium If Queens is a no go?
(Wilpon also owns Cyclones in Coney)
I hope with all the money being spent on these opulent baseball fields,
Let's hope they throw a measley 100m towards a sport that is fast growing in this country.

I think you forgot one thing, where is the money coming from ? From the public or from the owners ? IIRC,100% of Toyota park's construction was payed by Bridgeview. I don't know how much Harrison,NJ and Hudson County are contributing to the construction of RBP,but I'm sure it's less than 50%.
Would NYC give money/land for a SSS ?

The blue area is where currently stands Astroland. A developer bought it a few years ago to build a super hotel complex. This past summer was suppose to be Astroland's last one before construction began. Local citizens and politicians have roadblocked development though and Astroland is coming back next summer.
What does this mean to us? Well it is starting to look like mission impossible for the developer, so he might be looking to sell. If you look at Astroland and its adjacent park lot you have a huge amount of space to build a sports complex. Coney Island residents would likely back this because they want to be seen as an attraction center, not a gentrified community.
I made the map big so you can also see the Cyclones' KeySpan Parkand all of the empty parking lots/undeveloped land. You have mass transit a few blocks away. This is an area used to big crowds and traffic that would be happy to have anything that stops the hotel from being built.
With Wilpon's influence in the area (Cyclones sell out every night in their 7K+ seat stadium), I would call this Plan B.

Normally I would agree, but Bloomberg loves these types of development projects. Plus there is already a ton of money earmarked for development in the Flushing/Willets Point area that has to be spent or it will be lost. Plus current stadium projects are receiving various city "support". So I would say "maybe". If Wilpon is involved I would think chances would increase since Citi Field is getting $610 million for various stadium and infrastructure costs already.
I think Bloomberg will be a very important person in getting a SSS built. He is out of office in 2009, so Wilpon/MLS better hurry.

The Tax Payers are footing at least half of the new mets and yankees,
and the F#$# multi-Billions dollar Barclays bulls#$#.
So i think 100 Million for an SSS is very reasonable.

I think the area highlighted is surrounding the Cyclone, and they can't tear that down (nor should they ever).

According to the deal with the developers, the new owners have to keep the Cyclone operating. It's not going anywhere regardless what happens, but maybe it can be moved.

If a sss was to be located in that area it would be pretty sick to have the upper deck cut off at one end so fans can see the Cyclone (or at least part of it) from the inside of the stadium. I really like what the Cyclones have done with their stadium in the fact that it blends in with the boardwalk and amusment park. (Neon lights surrounding the light poles and stadium, roller coaster on the scoreboard)

What I post was from something I read a few weeks ago (less than a month ago). I'll try to find it to see if it's outdated. Disney would fit with what the community wants, but I would think that if Disney is making a big move in NYC/Brooklyn it would be all over the news. I'll get back to you if I find anything.

The Disney-Coney Island rumor is that Disney was looking to open a Disney store in the area. They have been looking at Coney Island for a while it seems.
By the way, the developer that owns Astroland is Thor Equities. Nice name ;)
Another thing about a Coney Island SSS is that it remains one of the few places in the city that offers low cost family entertainment for city families. Cyclones, the boardwalk, Astroland, and other attractions are pretty cheap compared to taking a family to Shea or even the movies. Since one of the MLS selling points is that it is affordable I think Coney Island is a feasible location.

not to mention the fact that Coney Island is probably further from Manhattan than Harrison, N.J.

Now you guys see that it isnt about the distance,we dont care about that. As long as its IN our city.
