Its that time again, Premiership Saturday action.

Man City

@

Wigan

Where: JJB Stadium
When: Saturday December 1st
1500 GMT
10:00a EST
US Tele: FSC 10a

Notes on the Match:

Wigan striker Emile Heskey is pushing for a starting spot at the JJB Stadium.

Winger Antonio Valencia sat out the defeat at Arsenal because of a knee problem but is expected to return for Steve Bruce's first match in charge.
City midfielder Geovanni could return to the starting line-up with Elano out because of a hamstring injury. Darius Vassell, Michael Johnson and Nedum Onuoha are all sidelined through injury but Vedran Corluka and Emile Mpenza have shaken off knocks.

Wigan (from): Kirkland, Melchiot, Granqvist, Bramble, Kilbane, Cotterill, Sibierski, Landzaat, Scharner, Skoko, Brown, Taylor, Bent, Heskey, Valencia, Aghahowa, Pollitt, Hall, Olembe. Man City (from): Isaksson, Hart, Corluka, Richards, Dunne, Garrido, Ireland, Fernandes, Hamann, Petrov, Geovanni, Mpenza, Ball, Jihai, Samaras, Bianchi, Etuhu, Dabo.

Wigan boss Steve Bruce on Emile Heskey's return to full fitness:
"He's going to be paramount to us. I know how big an inspiration he can be to the team. I've worked with him before. "People ridiculed me for paying all that money for him years ago but he is the best number nine of his type in the country. "It's vitally important the big players stay fit. You can't replace him. He was nearly fit at Arsenal, he's worked very hard and will be raring to go."

Man City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson:
"Heskey's a very good football player, very strong and important for them up front. Before he got injured he was having a very good season and played very well for England as well.

"It's the worst moment to meet them, it's a new manager, we don't really know how they are going to play. "And of course it's the first home game for the new manager and all the support they will have from the fans there."

Steve Bruce makes his debut as Wigan manager aiming to end the longest losing Premier League run this season of eight matches and longest winless sequence of 11 games.
Victory for Manchester City would see them leapfrogging Manchester United into second place in the table, as the Red Devils do not play Fulham at Old Trafford until Monday.
This match pits the club with the second fewest Premier League wins (Wigan, two) against the one with the second most (City, nine); Wigan have scored as many goals at home as City have netted away (five in eight in both cases).
The Latics need three more points to total 100 in their Premier League history. Wigan defend their 100% Premier League record over Manchester City. They have gained more Premier League victories against the Citizens than any other club (four), are the only club they have doubled in this league, and have scored more Premier League goals against City than any other (10).

I personally expect nothing less than a win against a struggling Wigan team. It would be nice to see Geo get a start. So what lineup are we looking at?

Also has snyone heard anything at all about Michael Johnson's recovery? I might have to go try and dig something up on the internet.

Also has snyone heard anything at all about Michael Johnson's recovery? I might have to go try and dig something up on the internet.

According to various reports we will be without Johnson, Onuoha, and Vassell in addition to Elano.

I am hoping for a starting squad that looks something like:

---------------Isaksson----------------

Corluka--Dunne--Richards--Garrido

---------Hamann----Fernandes--------

--Ireland----------Geo---------Petrov--

-----------------Samaras------------------

Hamann together with Fernandes would be a solid defensive/possession midfield, allowing Geovanni and Ireland to push forward and Petrov to play wide for service (hopefully making use of Samaras in the box).

That said, it will most likely be closer to your first selection, with Mpenza heading the attack.

PREDICTION:

Wigan 0 - 1 Man City

Geovanni (58')

I see Gelson starting this game so I don't think you need a question mark. Personally, I think he has done pretty well in midfield so far, so I don't think we have any worries with him if he plays top form.

Wigan has good luck against us, so I don't expect a real huge margin in this game, because our defense is just unstoppable (besides at the Chelsea game... but we became far better after it.)

Hopefully Geovanni can strike for us and fill Elano's space (which I think he will do well, he came on and played pretty solid at the Reading match.)

And hopefully, we get Superman for this match, because I would love to see us leapfrog ManU, you better believe it will be party time even if it is just for a week.

PREDICTION

Wigan 0 - 1 City

I've tipped us, and there is no reason not to think that we will win.

Wigan are on a 11 game without a win, 8 game without a point streak. We should bury them

2-0. Samaras, Fernandes to strike.

I only wish I could watch the match live, but unfortunately I have to go to my friend's son's briss tomorrow. I will be watching Setanta's online replay tomorrow night at 21:15. This means I will not be listening to the radio, watching any television, or checking this thread tomorrow.

And mark my words, if any of my friends so much as mention anything that happened during the match before I get back home I will strangle them with a fine classical guitar string stolen from Albeniz during one of his off-nights and then cast into the fiery depths of hell with their body.

We really need that second road win. However, we can't over look this one. Wigan's lost 5 straight and looking to break that streak. When they're desperate, they'll do anything. Heck, Wigan's got nothing to lose. It won't be easy.

CFF, we'll see what happens. But I just don't see they can overcome our possession style of play. Probably another 1-0 match.

Historicaly speaking, Wigan beat City 4 times out of 6 in league games. Last year they beat us both times and blanked us 5-0.

I do smell an upset, but I still picked City in my fantasy pool.

Well that's a hell of a start to the match. 1 - 0, one minute into it. Geovanni steals a terrible miss clear from the back and calmly puts it in.

Briss was canceled, so I am on for the match...

And it seems I was both right and wrong; I was right about Geovanni scoring at least one, but wrong about when.

Wigan 0 - 1 City

Geovanni (1')

Just in case you lads cannot tell I am laughing maniacally right now.

Bramble looks to be the last man Wigan supporters want near goal right now.

A diving header off a very good service from Koumas.

Garrido may very well be concussed from his early head-clash with Valencia.
