ELANO - HAMSTRING PROBLEM (MEDIUM)

Elano's early substitution in the 58th minute of City's 2-1 defeat of Reading, most likely arising from International duty fatigue, has given way to an apparent hamstring injury. Reports indicate he has undergone scans and will miss the upcoming Wigan match.

mcfc web-site has confirmed Elano will be out due to a hamstring injury. Sad news for us, but it gives someone else a chance - probably Samaras due to his better performance against Reading. I'd prefer to see Geo starting. :D

MCFC web-site, dated today:

"Discussing the current injury situation ahead of Sunday's game, Sven said,

"Michael Johnson and Valeri Bojinov are training but not ready, but Micah Richards is resting for a few days. He has a slight knee injury and will not be available for Sunday, but we really hope to have him fit for the game against Derby next week. :(

"Mpenza is back and he looks great again, and another young man also back training now is Danny Sturridge. He has been excellent out there [on the training pitch] and he scored three goals for the youth team on Wednesday. He's a very good player and he will be involved with the squad on Sunday."" :)

I had hoped that we'd see Johnson in this week-end's match and with Richards out, it's a double blow.

Add Nery to the list, the 'sick room' is busy.

MCFC 11 Feb:
Bojinov scored a goal for the Reserves (he came on as a sub in the 2nd half). Johnson played the 1st half only - a planned substitution. Let's hope we'll see them in the 1st team soon. :D

Johnson could also be fit to play.

Bojinov could be another few weeks before he's competing for a place in the 1st team. :(

Elano - muscle strain (the muscle isn't specified)

Quote from MCFC web-site:
“He took a knock from Brown in the first half, then when he tried a diagonal ball in the second half he felt a muscle pushing a little bit. We don’t know how bad it is, but the muscle has not ‘gone’ as such so it’s not a serious injury. But for next weekend I don’t know yet.”

6th March:

Bojinov's return has been delayed - he's back in the gym to build up his strength.

Not good news, I was hoping we'd see him in the next week or so. We need as many striker options as possible, to give our opponents something to think about seems as SGE says that they now know how we're going to play. Grief SGE  , in that case, it's time to mix it up a bit, change our style, go 4-4-2 - a lone striker isn't working.

Ah well, coming to the end of the season and Bojinov has appeared in two matches for the reserves, not full matches, but he's been on the pitch, at last. The reserves managed to win against Sunderland, funny, the 1st team did that too! :D With Castillo scoring the only goal in the 88th min.

23 April : Bojinov played 80 mins for the reserves (against Middlesbrough 1-1 and City are now 2nd place and above Man U!) Tuesday night and he hopes to play in any of the remaining matches - I'm sure he means for the 1st team. Let's hope we see him this Saturday (Fulham), last home match of the season.
