Forza shows he's as consistent as a paper airplane:

Translation: "Of course Germany is an easier draw than Portugal, Spain or Romania" (the pot #3 teams).

Translation: "I mostly agree with you ranking Germany #3" (ahead of Portugal, Spain and Romania)

:p
Rankings don't mean shit when you put one team against another. Answer my question, what are the head-head stats between Germany and Italy in major competitions? Germany is stronger or on the same level with those 3 teams in its pot, Italy has a better record against Germany than those other 3 though. Back to the Chile board for you where you might know SOMETHING about football. Why don't you go and drool about Riquelme's return and leave the real football discussion to the big boys.
Troll harder next time.

And there's no way Netherlands would beat Liechenstein by only 1-0, or lose to Belarus, no way in hell.

The Netherlands won 1-0 to Luxemburg, not Liechtenstein. What time will the draw be on ESPN2?

Yeah, because past matches between Germany and Italy really matter in a potential 2008 meeting. That's why Italy would love to draw Brasil in the next World Cup instead of, say, Bahrain. Cuz they've beaten Brasil a few times in the past!

Look, I know what you're getting at. Portugal has Holland's number recently, but if someone suggested that Portugal would rather draw Holland than Austria just because of some historic success against Holland, you would point and laugh at them.

Kind of like what every other poster in this forum does at you! :p

Yeah ranking means a little.
in a real life a team could jump from let's say 20 spot to top ten in two-three month in FIFA ranking that would not happend that quick

I would repeat myself, Italy is good
but Germany is different the team it was before
Yes I agree History repeats but also people make history as well.
We all have to just see in June

Sunday, December 2nd 3 a.m. Pacific time (at night)
Espn Deportes (for sure, in the programming guide)
Espn 2HD (for sure, in the programming guide)
Espn 2 (maybe, says to be announced)

It is right in the middle of the night

Does anyone have the procedure for the draw?

I assume they'll draw positions in the group as well as teams, i.e. say they start with pot 4 and France gets drawn into Greece's group, they won't be assigned the C4 position automatically, but there will be a draw for position (C2, C3 or C4).

Can anyone confirm this? Over the past three days the football guys on RMC Info (French sports radio station) have said France being in pot 4 could only end up as A4, B4, C4 or D4. I just don't think they're right, but I can't find the official procedure anywhere.

Thanks, but they don't explain the procedure for the draw--any other source, anyone?

And BTW, I think I was wrong to assume in my post above that Greece would automatically be placed in group C. My guess is the first thing they'll draw for will be the position of Greece and Holland (C1 or D1).

That was my assumption. I don't see how this should be complicated though.

1. Hosts prepopulated in A1 and B1.
2. Greece and Holland drawn into C1 and D1.
3. Pot 2 drawn into A2-D2.
4. Pot 3 drawn into A3-D3.
5. Pot 4 drawn into A4-D4.

Are there any limitations at all on who can be placed with whom?

No such limitations, but what I was wondering was whether if you're in pot 2 you automatically end up as A2, B2, C2, D2 or you could end also end up as A3-D3, A4-D4.

The former is what you describe, the latter is a bit more complicated in the sense that when a team is drawn into a group, it is not automatically assigned the position of the pot it came from, but it is also drawn into a position. Say Greece is drawn to C1 and Holland to D1, and we move on to pot 2 as you suggest. The first team drawn from pot 2 goes to group A--but instead of going directly to A2, there's a subsequent draw for position between A2, A3 and A4.

Based on past draws, I think positions will be drawn as well as groups, but I could definitely be wrong--I just haven't been able to find any official info on this.

Every draw I've seen draws positions as well as groups. Don't see why this one would be any different.

It's not about history alone. Germany's style of play suits Italy's very well. They're not fast nor as physical as someone like France. They're not as technical as Spain. Not as fast as Portugal, but Portugal might also be on the same level as Germany considering preference. Romania is also very technical and Mutu is having a great season this year. Germany is a team that relies on making zero mistakes, is very conservative, and good in the air. Much like Italy but we vary in different areas, I think we're better on the ground as opposed to air. Italy is much better at a slower paced game, you don't find that with Spain, Portugal, or Romania. End of.

It's the ad hominem arguments from a "particular user". It was a good thread, but someone just wants to argue with me for the hell of it.
