What a joke... he says it won't be a busy x-fer window for us but I bet Defoe gets sold. He's not in a “top” team at the moment so what does he have to lose? He'll go anywhere he can play 1st team regularly and that's what he needs at this point.
"The way it operates, you have an individual whose primary responsibility in coaching the first team players and another whose day to day responsibility is making sure that scouting, academy and medical departments are working together,"
Maybe Comolli should start doing his job and see about getting a top quality, experienced backup/replacement for the forever injured King.

Give him back to West Ham so we can make fun of him when he gets benched....again:D

His contract is running out and his agent is scumbag Sky Andrews. Hopefully they can push him out the door.

I bet Defoe will not sign a new contract until after the Jan transfer window, if he does at all. Either way, I'm guessing that he'll be gone next summer, if Ramos has his way.

He'll be sold in January.

What made him such a fan favorite? Cause right now it seems a lot of plp just hate him(on these forums at least). I didn't see how good he was once he first arrived at spurs but was he playing 10 times better or were the fans just very high on him?

The best thing Defoe ever did was light a fire under Keano. Robbie had to fight for his job and did so like a pro and now is a massive fan favorite and arguably our best player.

Oh Just sell him. I'm so tired of all the banter about a squad player. If this guy wasn't English, nobody would give a rats ass about him.

It is not really Defoe himself, but the situation. He has been a "team" player for the last 2 or 3 seasons. He has shown that he can be brilliant. But right now, he seems to be odd man out and with all our other problems, it would just be better if this distraction went away.

Totally agreed, and we all know how delusional English football fans can be. Defoe has had his moments (unfortunately one of them was not his potentially match-winning pk against West Ham) but there is a reason he is the odd man out: he just isn't as good as Keano/Berbs/Bent. I hope that we will finally be rid of him this January...

Laughably stupid comments. Stick to the MLS boards if you want to post this crap.

You've got me all wrong, my comments were not intended to be part of the whole brit/yank or MLS/Prem debate (being half brit and half yank myself and relatively new to the US of A, my loyalties lie firmly with the English national team--I am quite delusional, thinking every World Cup will be 1966 all over again, for instance). But any honest English football fan must admit, particularly in light of recent events, that there is a tendency to over-estimate the talent of English players (um, Scott Carson?). Defoe, in my opinion, has always been at least in part a product of this tendency.

why would he want to stay? Spurs aren't challenging for championship glory or anything so why not go to Wigan and get regular playing time?

um, maybe it was the fact that he came over from west ham, played very well, and then scored (i believe) twenty-two goals for us in his first full season. it was our first truly productive season from a striker in what seemed like eons. do names like postiga, rebrov, sheringham (the elder), iverson, and armstrong mean anything to you guys? if not, i won't feign surprise. but they're the quality at striker that preceded defoe - and it wasn't pretty.
at some point, we'll move him on. and when he plays every week again, he'll score 20+ again. it's tough to produce when you only get 20-30 minutes. he's quality.

That's a good point, though Defoe did have a 9 goal season somewhere in there. Mido should probably be on that list as well...I still think that Defoe should go, perhaps I am being unfair but is it just me or have we never been able to find a striking partner for Defoe--when he is scoring, it always seems like no one else is. Anyway, I am keen to see Bent get more time and what good is Defoe on the bench? How dare you defame Sheringham, shame...
