Okay, so I was killing time (many months until the season restarts) by going through the DC United website. I found this:
http://ww2.mlsnet.com/t103/fans/2007/thanks/
It's a nice video of the team and Tommy saying "thank you" to us fans. Never seen something like this before, and I have to admit it's rather nice.
So, DC United, I can say "you're welcome". :D

Thanks right back to DC United. I think the fans were rightfully spoilt with the initial runaway success DC United had from ’96-‘99. The "wilderness" period that followed was unbearable, but it did give me a greater appreciation for what had come before and what has come since Nowak arrived and now continuing with Soehn. I can look at eight out of 12 seasons and say, “hell yeah.” I’m more than satisfied with winning MLS Cup and two Supporters Shields out of the last four seasons. I hope we're good enough (and lucky enough) to keep winning.

It certainly goes both ways. The effort that they take for us shows. For some teams, you are a fan. For others, you are part of the club. I wish there was some way to officially "join" DC United, like you would join an organization. I'd sign up in a heartbeat. One club, a select few would have "player" status (Gomez, et al.) and the rest have "supporter" status, but all equally be members. That's the way it works for a lot of Euro clubs, no?
