Summer of 2004 or summer of 2005 and beyond.

5 teams: (4 locked)

1) MLS All-Stars
2) Premier Champion
3) La Liga Champion
4) A-Series Champion
5) Europe Club Champion (if it is the same team as 2-4, then the fifth spot can go to South America Club Champion.

each teams play 4 games. The 2 teams with most points at the end of 4 games will play in the FINAL for $10 million, second place $ 2.5 million. This way, it is no longer an exhibition. Furthermore, it could serves as pre-season for those teams like it is now.

A total of 11 games will be played (instead of 8 games like this Summer tour).

Five different markets (2 games each) with different teams each times. So for example, Seattle is one of the site, it will have a game between 1 vs. 2, and 4 vs 3 (or something like this). Two games at a particular venue will lower the cost of operation. For example, a local TV station reported that it costed ChampionsWorld almost 1 million dollar to replace the turf at seahawks stadium with grass.

How long? 3 weeks. July x to August X.
1) Wednesday / Thursday,
2) Saturday / Sunday. (week 1)
3) Wednesday / Thursday.
4) Saturday / Sunday. (week 2)

FINAL Sunday (week 3)

(thus for 3 teams, it only takes 2 weeks, most likely MLS All-Stars, oh..no MLS All-Stars game, these 4 games will substitue that).

Revenue:
1) tickets, parking, concession
50,000 people per game x 11 games x around 50 dollars a person spent on the game =
27,500,000 dollars

2) T.V. contract with Fox Sports World (with the FINAL showing on a Sunday on FOX) for the 11 live games in America, with broadcasting rights and selling the rights to the rest of the world, Asia, Europe, South America) I am estimating a convervative value of 11,000,000 dollars (1 million dollars for each game).

3) Sponsorship. X amount of money (I have no clue)

4) Special sponsorship. For example, NIKE can buy the name for the tour and name it NIKE INVITATION 20XX. I am guessing 8,000,000 millions dollars a year.

Total (guessing) revenue: 46,500,000 Dollars

The Cost:
FINAL winner: $10 millions.
second place: $ 2.5 millions.

each team receive 2 millions for 4 games played.
thus, 10 millions dollars.

Running the operation (Renting stadiums, tv equipment, airfares, etc, for these 11 games)
: 20 millions
(I heard that the current 8 games cost 16 millions.

Total Cost: $ 42.5 millions

****Profits: (46.5 million + X amount of sponsorship) - 42.5 millions

Seeing how huge the game was at Seattle. Reading my local newspaper from around Seattle, it was a big deal. It made front page in the NewTribune of Tacoma, even got bigger headline than the Death of Saddam's sons. It got 4 pages in the sport section from the Seattle Times on Sunday. All the news stations covered it right after the game, talking to fans as they leave the stadium.

Benifits

1) MLS-supporters Americans like me will have a team to cheer for even though it will be years before the All-Stars can make a run for the winner. The league where the tour is taking placed is represented.

2) Growing popularity of the sport in America. Great athletes might want to be a soccer player instead of a player of some other sports. Motivate current soccer players to improve so one day they can play in Europe or be in this Invitation. Exposure for the clubs that play in this invitation. This is the main goal of Man U this year, conquering the last soccer market and also the most lucrative.

3) Profits

4) It is more competition than the current exhibitions.

5) TV ratings. I am sure that the FINAL will drew at least 20 millions viewers on FOX. IF the Women world cup final drew 40 millions, why not men world-class soccer and not to mention the 10 million prize money. MLSlers will watch it. Eurosnops will watch it. MExicans will watch it. Typical Americans will watch it since it is August X, there is nothing on beside baseball, and WNBA and not to mention the oversea TV money from Asia,Europe, South America. The two finalists is almost as good if not the same or better than the two finalists in the World Cup. STars players from BRazil vs. Germany or Man U vs. REal Madrid competing for 10 million dollars, which could give the club extra money to buy players, not to mention the money that can be make by selling merchandise. (MAn u jersey 70 dollars for example)

6) Higher TV rating for FOX sports World during the invitation and afterward since more people would subscribe to the channel. Also, seeing how good world-class soccer can be, regular Americans would be more likely to watch MLS games, or games from abroad.

There are so many other benifits......(i will name them later as they occur to me, or you can list them if you like this idea and see some other benifits.

so currently, the line up would be

1) MAn U
2) mLS all stars
3) REal MAdrid
4) Juventus
5) AC Milan

10 games and a final

What do you guys think?

meaningful (10 mil) WORLD-CLASS soccer in the US with the participation of MLS, the home team as so to speak.
IT could be a yearly thing (pending WC or whatever). Giving time, it could be a tradition.
4 best club teams in the world plus the home team competing for 10 million dollars. Of course, the prize money will increase pending on the success of the invitation.

How about ChampionsWorld sponsors a tour of the sun? Between promoters, teams, and fans, we can incinerate most of the Eurosnobs alive today. If only we can make sure Lennart Johanssen is there for the honorary first kick. And Maradona can sell autographs.

Wishful thinking.

The ChampionsWorld friendlies only draw around 200000-300000 households per match.

They are friendlies after all.

The ratings aren't that great.

Real Madrid vs. MLS All-Stars would be great

So the rating for the MAn U vs. Celtic only drew a 200,000-300,000 audiences on FSW?

okay.

so you say this is a bad idea because the rating is bad? or because they are friendlies?

with 10 millions dollar prize, I can assure you it will not be a friendly. Man U make a profit of about 50 millions dollars last year. They can increase their profits by 20% by winning this tournament.

So you think this idea is worse than the current summer Tour, where the home league is not represented? as oppose to where the home team did in Asia???

I am not sure of the rating, but Real Madrid vs. Man U for 10 millions dollars broadcast around the world would get GREAT RATING.
IF it is on primetime in AMerica, broadcast on FOX, I would be surprised if less than 15 millions ppl watch it, consider the buzz of the two teams and the fact that 40 millions tune in the Women World Cup final.
IF not on primetime, like 1 pm sunday, the rating in EUrope would be great, because it is primetime there. If the rating in America is not that great, what about other places where soccer is popular like South AMerica, (sunday, 1 pm) or Europe (sunday night around 7-8 pm) or even Asia where MAN U is so huge.

Anyway, i am making this thread because I think it would be better than the current 'friendlies' tour where it is only exhibition and no 'home league' is invited.

I don't see how you are going to be able to give $10m to the winner. You do realise that is more than the champion recieves in the Champions League?

The Championsworld Tour is just like NASL.

It will fizzle out once the frontrunners get bored with the product on the field.

On TV, that Celtic - Man U game was just awful.

The players have skills - no doubt. But there was absolutely no competitive tension in the match.

I will be attending three games in the tour in person, I will let you know if I changed my mind, but at this point I think I wasted my money.

Who would put up the $10 million?

Without a TV network paying a hefty rights fee, the prize money won't happen.

The problem: the ratings don't justify anyone in the US paying even $1 in rights fee.

read my first post.( I assume all the revenue and costs of course and but I didn't even account for the sponsorship money except for NIKE forking over 8 million dollars a year to have its name as the offical sponsor or something like "NIKE INVITATION 20XX" featuring the top 5 world soccer clubs. In my opinion, the 10 million prize is very doable. If NIKe could give Lebron James 100 millions for 7 years surely they could give this INVITATION 80 millions in 10 years because it features the like of Real Madrid, Man U, AC Milan or Juventus (depending on who win their league) Santos or some other South AMerican club that win Copa L, and of course America's very own....MLS champ. If I am the CEO of NIKE, I would think it is a bargain if the rating for this (fantansized) TOUrnament can draw great rating in Europe, South America and Asia, and I don't see why the rating wouldn't be good. Just imagine for a second. Real Madrid vs. Man U in a sell-out stadium of 90,000 (there are several venues in the US that have this capacity) competing for 10 millions dollar.

oh. after reading some other posts from other ppl in the other forums, I have revised my 5 picks because other people 5 picks are better.

1) Premiership champ
2) La Liga champ
3) A-Series champ
4) MLS champ
5) Copa Libertadores champ

On an interesting note. maybe because people in the Media and Business forum are more realistic, the yes vote is only 40% comparing to 72.3% in 'the beautiful game' forum and 76.9% in the MLS forum.

I can think of several MLS referees who would be perfect for this!!!!
