I choose Juan and Mexes.
They are both quick, strong, skillfull, good readers of the game and are not violent.

The second best pair is Vidic and Ferdinand. They are good, but don't have the same flair.

:D

Of course, that means absolutely nothing when it comes to CBs.

When they're both healthy, Carvalho and Terry make an excellent duo.
I also rate Onyewu and Bocanegra very highly. :D

Lucio and Demichelis have been really good this season for Bayern.

And on a NT level, Mertesacker and Metzelder have been brilliant at the WC onwards.

Who is the only CB pairing to not concede a goal from play...Carra and Agger...absolutely the best pairing in the premiership

What's the timeframe you're talking about? This season in the EPL?

They always try to get out of tight situations by passing the ball and avoiding a kick to the other side of the pitch.

they also are giving up a lot more goals than they should be giving up. yes, they play offensively and have had some injuries which hasn't helped, and doni behind them isn't the best, but they haven't gelled enough to give them the best partnership, though once that happens, it wouldn't surprise me one it if they are one of the best partnerships, as both have nice technical ability to pass the ball and going forward c an make runs and are dangers on set pieces, in addition to one would hope fairly stingy defense, but so far especially mexes this year, has made some mistakes as they get accustomed to one another.

we'll see though, i guess.

Yeah from the start of the season until Agger got injured in all comps...even after that weve only conceded around 7 goals

Doesn't that come to around just six matches total?

Edit: I'll be biased and go with Rio/Vidic. Not only are they both fantastic players, but they compliment each other perfectly, have a great understanding, have a good defensive record especially for such an attacking team, and they both add to that same attack (Vidic on set pieces, and Rio through his ball skills... which could also be referred to as 'flair').:)

Metzelder and Mertesacker for Germany. I'm not sure I'd put Mexes and Juan in that classification quite yet, they've conceded a few too many goals. In terms of attacking threat, Juan and Mexes are certainly up there because they make runs all the time and score goals from the run of play. Terry and Carvahlo when healthy, Ferdinand has made his center back partner effective for years no matter who it is.

Carragher should have been flagged for half a dozen penalties tho. Quite easy to be a stone wall when you can mug everyone in the box.

Should, if, but...yeah and Man Utd SHOULD have beaten the relegation battlers Bolton BUT you guys are shit...there is no way a top team should lose to the bottom team...and its not as if you dominated and were unlucky

That has nothing to do with the topic and is more suited to a club rivalries thread. I could retort but there is little point in wasting a good thread.

I agree with billyireland in relation to Ferdinand and Vidic. Their record is exceptional and that is despite playing in a very attacking side. No doubt all of the top four (in England) will have their central defenses listed in this thread but all have the luxury of midfield protection and often dedicated defensive midfielders. Ferdinand and Vidic have not had that until this season with Hargreaves.

All I'll say is that "gooner" means Arsenal. Otherwise I'm just gonna read from here on out.

Or will you wait another five before even getting back to the top of the table whatsoever? I'll leave it at that.
