Double Eliminator Cup

The DE-Cup kicks off this weekend. I thought more info might be required, but seems like everything is covered in this post from the BE-Cup thread:

Over the next 14-15 weeks, we will be looking to crown DE-Cup winners for each league. Teams are competing only against teams in their own league, and will be eliminated from the competition the "second" time they are the low scorer of the remaining teams in their league.

The 4 league champs will then play in champions round, for the super DE-Cup.

If needed, tie breakers will be the same as the BE-Cup. If something arises I haven't thought about, I'll go to the rule book!!!

I will post next week in this thread the names of the four teams that will have picked up their first strike. Good luck to all, especially those who have already been eliminated from the BE-Cup.

The DE-Cup kicked off this weekend with a remarkable pageant. Lots of photos, but not much else to talk about at this point. 4 teams picked up their first strike, and your's truly lost the first DE-Cup tiebreaker in DE-Cup.

Four new teams pick up their first strike this week. No one is eliminated.

None of last week's group were even in the bottom 3 of their respective leagues, but with more teams picking up strikes, there are going to have to be some closer calls, and even eliminations, in weeks to come....

An exciting DE-Cup weekend, as another gameweek goes by without an elimination, but just barely. In the Dust league, VCC came in with one strike against it, and when the games ended had only 18 points, but VCC strategically picked up 13 points from the bench when auto-sub kicked in, running the total to 31, and moving into a tie with ThisisAnfield. With Anfield only getting 1 point (doubled to 2) from Reina as his captain, things looked grim for VCC, but it turned out his captain (Fabregas) did not play and was one of the players subbed out. So, removing the doubled captain points, VCC survives by a point, and continues in the search for the Dust DE-Cup.

And, after finishing second from the bottom last week in the Sand League, Crazies picked up its first strike this week, and will now need to turn things around quickly or face elimination. In 3 weeks, 12 teams have picked up strikes, and it can't be too much longer until we finally get our first elimination, and in all likelihood teams are probably going to start dropping pretty regularly in the weeks to come.

I've adjusted the weekly format - the first line shows the lowscorer in the league for that week, followed by a summary of the teams that now have strikes and the teams that have been eliminated (with the week of their low scores in parentheses):

Ouch, that first strike hurt; especially as I still have Internet access and should have been able to avoid it.

Alas, Captain Hargreaves pulled up in the pre-match warm-up and Sami boy (ignored for so long by the Small Rocks managers and transfered in by 1800) didn't start.

Add to that may reluctance to lose points to shift the red players and I paid the price.

I'm going to seriously think about taking a 12-15 point hit to try and keep the team competitive over the Holiday period, but I expect to fail misserably and will have to crawl back out of the relegation zone before I go away again at Easter.

After surviving a tiebreaker last week, VCC insisted that there was no interest in the DE-Cup, and headed home. There were a couple of close calls, as Lobo in Very Small and Crazies in Sand had low scores and finished next to last, but there is no harm in next to last in these elimination cups. So, somewhat remarkably, VCC remains the only elimination after 4 gameweeks the first and only elimination: One team has been eliminated - Fourteen other teams have one strike - And only seventeen teams are still untouched. Certainly more eliminations will follow in the next four compressed gameweeks.....

Low scores. TieBreakers. Eliminations. Two new teams pick up strikes, so if you do not have a strike yet, you are in the minority of 15 completely safe teams. And two more teams are eliminated, ClassActs in Very Small Rocks and Boston Spurs in Dust.

Dust now has two teams eliminated and one one other team with a strike, while Small and Sand have no eliminations (YET) and five teams carrying strikes.

ClassActs goes out on the tiebreaker, and the first time that a tiebreaker has gone past the initial question of captains points. Tied at 25 points with Kopite Juniors, the tiebreaker went as follows:
a. remove doubled points from captains - 24 to 24 (rooney 1 pt vs barry 1 pt)
b. remove points from auto subs - neither team had any
c. whose goalie and defenders score more - Class = 6 and kopite = 9

So, Kopite wins the tiebreaker and avoids picking up the strike, while ClassActs says good bye to the DE-CUP. Notably, Kopite actually had points on the bench, but had 11 players so didn't need/get the sub, while ClassActs had two starters fail to play but no one on the bench to come in....

Rockville Gunners survived a somewhat close finish against ColdDogSoup, but avoided elimination by 3 points and sent Lobo packing. 14 teams still have no strikes, while 6 have now been elimnated.....

Four eliminations this week in the DE-Cup. Zola School picks up the low score in back-to-back weeks to go from completely safe to out in less than one week during the holiday season compressed schedule. And, in Sand, the Lawn Gnomes edge LSG by 2 points, sparing LSG for at least another week. I’ve re-worked the format to include the teams that have no strikes. Half of the teams in VSR and Dust still have no strikes, but the quick demise of Zola School shows that not having any strikes means nothing in terms of longevity. On the other hand, picking up a first strike has thus far been a very bad thing (to use the technical lingo) – all of the teams who picked up strikes during the opening gameweek (gw14) have now been eliminated, and Rockville Gunners are the only team still alive who picked up a strike in gw15. Obviously, it is better to be strike-free than not.

It was all about tiebreakers and eliminations this week in the DE-Cup. Two tiebreakers, one between teams with strikes that would result in an elimination and one between teams with clean sheets that would result in a first strike.

In Small Rocks, In off the post and Rockville Gunners squared off with 38 points each. In off the post goes home, as after double captain points are removed, the score was 36 to 33.

And in Very Small Rocks, Kopite Juniors and manu08 squared off with the high tally of 48 points (a record high for a DE-Cup strike or elimination). After removing double captain points, manu08 picked up the first strike by a score of 48-46. Yes, manu08 has a DE-Cup strike even though manu08 has never even been in the danger zone in the BE-Cup. Odd how the different cups and league may produce different matchups. And, yes, Kopite survives another DE-Cup tiebreaker, this time after scoring 48 points without any points from captain Wes Brown, who picked a fine time to rest for 83 minutes before picking up a yellow card during his brief time in Tuesday’s game.

With manu08's strike, there are now only 13 teams without any strikes. As there are currently no Dust teams with strikes, the one thing we know about the next gameweek is that there will not be a Dust elimination.....

Not much time for me this week. Tough break for Rockville, to be eliminated at this stage of the competition after a 45-point outburst, but 45 points was not enough in the competitive Small Rocks league and it meant a second strike, and thus elimination. Goodbye as well to Crazies in the Sand league competition. At 15 eliminations, the DE-Cup has now caught up with the BE-Cup. The DE-Cup gives a second chance, but the eliminations are still coming in waves.... A couple of teams picked up their first strike and the list of completely safe teams continues to dwindle (currently 11).

Dust continues its methodical elimination of teams, as Boomkicker goes back-to-back weeks for a quick exit. Three teams remain in Dust, and none of them have strikes. By contrast, Very Small saw Raytown pick up a first strike, leaving Kopite to continue to sail under the radar as the only VSR team without a strike. Only 8 teams remain without their first strike. And, again, we head into another gameweek knowing that Dust will not not have an elimination next week as there are no teams on the block. But, presumably the eliminations will come from other leagues………

My season of mediocrity is awesome. Playing the reserves in the Olympics and League play and my starters in the Double Eliminator Cup. Wenger in reverse.
