View Full Version : The Underlying Cause

So what is the real reason for our sorry performance last night?

We've heard all sorts of reasons:

Too many foreigners in the EPL?
Lack of developement at the grass roots of English football and in the academies?
The economy - does football drive the economy or is it the other way round - in micro terms, the opportunity cost of capital lost, is estimated at £2bn - in macro terms the Nation is distraught, productivity will fall, unemployment will rise and the strength of the pound will be compromised et al? Neither are mutually exclusive by the way.
The blazers at the FA are dinosaurs and as we all know, dinosaurs move too slowly for the modern game.
The coach (McSven) was a wanker, as was the previous coach (Schven).
The insistance on appointing someone English after Sven?
Brian Barcode?
The systems beat us?
Croatia are better than us? (Bearing in mind they lost to Israel on Saturday)
Roman Abramorich's money?
Our thuggish supporters?
The pampered, overpaid sh!tbags are fcukin brutal and don't give a toss about the 3 lions?
Our keepers couldn't catch aids in Africa?
Injuries?
Politics - what does a nice liberal Swede, think of us, war-mongering mercenaries who won't adopt the Euro and globetrot the known Universe, looking for a fight?
For politics, read referees?
Sir Trevor (12 'o' levels) Brooking?

I'm a country before club man (and I respect the club before country movement, I understand their rationale), so I am grieving. I had huge plans for next summer, a bit of skiing, apple stroodle, occasional yodel and a riot in a bar or two!

What the fcuk am I gonna do now, go on holiday with the old woman? I think not! Only joking honeybun!

My mate is a Yiddo and he said if Spuds were relegated he would be suicidal, but he don't feel the same about England - please God let Tottenham get relegated, so he knows how I feel!

Has anyone else noticed how every single bump-ball, 50-50 challenge, rebound or clearance, always 100% of the time, goes to the opposition? This leads me to believe that our players are making challenges in the wrong place and there is a huge gap between the defensive defence and the attacking mid-field - so, IMHO it is entirely down to the coach, FCUKIN WANKER.

Oh and by the way, for Sinners benefit, Brad Friedel has 2 children and both are named Peter Crouch! :)

I heard it was 5 trillion pounds...where did you hear such a small number as 2 billion pounds?

I think you have to separate the question of what happened against Croatia, with the question of why England can't make the semifinals of anything. Those really are two differnt questions.

The conservative Mail said this:

WHU, this needed to be multiple choice.

FWIW I'd pick in order of importance:

(1) FA - for picking the coach (McClaren instead of Hiddink???? - the lot should be flushed down the loo);
(2) Coach - for picking the players (clueless, old boys club & negative football);
(3) Players - for not playing to their potential (too rich & soft, way past it for hunger & determination);
(4) Foreign Players - for being like piles (out there, won't go back & a pain the arse). I'd like to see no more than 3 foreigners allowed per club (stuff the EU politicians & some of the big clubs on this). I don't care about England, but it might help the raided countries (eg mine) to retain SOME of their players in their local competitions, for a bit longer.

Cheers.

never come to your mind that we lost against macedonia on purpose just to avoid pot 1 for euro with austria and swis? the goals we concieded were in second half when we knew we already qualified.

Can someone explain the structure of the FA to an American fan of England? Is it a corporation? If so, who are the shareholders? Is it a club? If so, who are the members? How do the officers and directors get elected or appointed?

Dick.

Gday Andy.

Yes I could have made it multi-choice, but that defeats the object of looking for the underlying cause, the root problem. It's a bit of a cop-out to make the blame progressive, the FA, the coach, the players - one or all of them might have contributed to the debacle, but underneath the surface, one stink, is the biggest stench!

And I blame McSven, fcukin brutal................:(

Dick.

It’s an association of all the football clubs in England .

I know that in Croatia we have regional associations which elect their delegates to send to the assembly of the national association which then elects the executive committee and the president. I would imagine that it’s quite similar to that in England and in other countries.

Come on, in the last two years of Sven's reign he clearly couldn't have given a flying ********. We needed a change it's just that the FA bodged it severely.
