llamosa from chivas
Prideaux, Brandon from colo

Hayden, John Michael from houston
Vagenas, Peter from LA
Quaranta, Santino from NY
theres some really good players out there and should make SJ better than 50% of the clubs out there now.

I think we should probably be moving this to the "Other Teams" thread, but I will add what I would do (not Brian Boitano):
Arvizu, David
Thorrington, John
Petke, Mike
Garey, Jason
Carroll, Brian
Hartman, Kevin
Vagenas, Peter
Dorman, Andy
Goldthwaite, Kevin
Jimenez, Christian
*Noting that this is not a prediction, but rather the players I would take, and that I do not have salary/contract status information on any players. I just tried to guess on those.

i was going to add this to that, but thought we should just start up a dc united thread on what we think would happen.

I know that Columbus has Schelotto now, but I'm really surprised that they left Ned Grabavoy available. He was their best player this season before Schelotto arrived - and cheap, young, American, and talented. Exactly what MLS expansion teams look for.
There are some really good players on Houston's list. Ashe and Wondolowski would start for a lot of teams.
I agree that we'll lose Brian.

D.C. United's unprotected players: No surprises here.
Addlery, Nicholas
Carroll, Brian
Carroll, Jeff
Crowe, Shawn
DeRoux, Stephen
Dyachenko, Rod
Gros, Joshua
Kpene, Guy
Mediate, Domenic
Monteiro, Jerson
Moose, Justin
Mupier, Mira
Nolly, Jay
North, Brad
Vanney, Greg
Walker, Jamil
B. Carroll is as good as gone.

So should United go for Grabavoy?
He played very well when I saw him this year, clearly the Crew's best non-Argentine player from what I saw. Clearyly not your typical American Central mid, getting by on just safe play and industry, he's a technical pllayer that showed creativity. And another thread has his salary as 52K.

Not sure how United could go for him. If he isnt taken by SJ, he is still part of the Crew is he not? Unless his contract is over? United would have to trade for him I would imagine. Just because players are left unprotected in an expansion draft, doesnt mean they are available for anyone else to take.

i know several are saying BC is gone, but wouldn't his salary be a deterrent? While guys like dyachenko, mediate and moose have much lower salaries and have shown they can play in MLS

I dont think Carroll's salary is THAT bad is it? The other two players that really stuck out in my mind on the unprotected list were Dyachenko, and Vanney. Vanney will very likely take a pay cut, no matter where he goes to stay in MLS. He just isnt going to continue making what he is now, being hes on the way backside of his career. Hes not a TERRIBLE defender either, tho part of my mind, and im sure many here will argue that after the perfomances against the fire.

If we really wanted him (or anyone else) we could do what Dallas did with Adrian Serioux. Tell SJ, "Hey, if you take xxx player in the expansion draft, we'll give you xxx for him."

If, then, where xxx= Bobby Boswell.

Last season everyone expected Simms to be gone and then out of nowhere Toronto took Dyachenko. San Jose may take someone like Moose and throw us all off.
Has Brian Carroll's stock fallen so far that San Jose would really consider choosing Dyachenko or Vanney over him? Do people really think that Joe freaking Vide (of the Scum) is as good as Carroll? I mean really. Joe freaking Vide? People are suggesting these things.
As far as I can tell, Yallop's insane if he doesn't choose Carroll at 110k. Seriously, how many other players in the current (within the last year) USMNT pool are available?
Hell, Yallop's insane if he doesn't choose every starting caliber player he can. SJ's starting from nothing, nada, zilch. People are suggesting that Yallop will take Boyens from Toronto? The man needs starters, not garbage for c's sake. If he's gonna take defenders, it'll be guys like Goldthwaite, Petke, or Burciaga.
If Yallop faces tough choices, Carroll from DC isn't one of them. Tougher choices are who to pick from Houston (Onstad, Wells, Cochrane, Waibel, or Ashe), LA (Harmse, Gray, Vagenas, or Tudela) COLO (Petke or N. Hernandez) and pretty much every other team except RSL and TOR.
IMHO, the easy choices are DC (Carroll), Salt Lake (pass) and TOR (pass).

You're going on the assumption that the majority of Yallop's starting XI will come from the expansion draft.
Indeed, Yallop has nothing to start with, but that's 17 steps better than what he had in LA.
But SJ will have all kinds of acquisition money, too. The trick is going to be fitting it all in under the cap. That's where higher priced players like Petke or BC may be a hindrance. Similar talent can be had cheaper. So I don't think it's a 'no brainer' that Carroll gets taken, even though there's a high probability that it'll happen.

But that's back when we thought that Mo' thought like a normal upright human.
I'm still holding out hope that SJ takes Nolly.

I wouldn't be all that surprised. Hell, he might choose to pick Vanney instead to offer leadership that is hard to find for an expansion franchise.

Right right. Backdoor trade via the expansion draft. But my point was more DC would still have to give something up. We cant just "get him". It will be interesting to see if anything like this goes down. Looks like SJ has plenty of good options, and can use its position to bargain with clubs for players that may not be left unprotected.

New York Red Bulls - Joseph Vide
Real Salt Lake - Chris Brown
Toronto FC - Andrea Lombardo

I think his toughest choice is with FC Dallas -- Goodson, a cheap but starting-quality defender, or Thompson, a cheap but starting-quality striker.
I'd take either of those for DC, particularly Thompson when you consider our need for another decent striker, in a heartbeat.

All right, so are there any deals for us here?
e.g. tell Yallop "if you draft Nico Hernandez, we'll trade you B. Carroll + de Roux for him after the draft is over," or some similar sort of thing?
