Could somebody please explain to me the deal with Michael Owen and Wales? I've heard he's half Welsh or something or at least eligible to paly for them (had he never played for England)? I'm jsut curious because, with the Welsh resourgence, imagine what Owen, Bellamy & Hartson up front would do, it'd be bizarre

i'm not sure where he was actually born (probably at Chester hospital), but Owen grew up and still lives in the town of Hawarden in North Wales (just over the border). Home of Lord Gladstone

Owen is know as a great guy and has actually bought a whole block in Hawarden for is family to live on.

Michael Owen was born in Chester (though I read somewhere that a part of the hospital lies in Wales - can anyone confirm?) to English parents, but he was raised, and now lives in Wales. He has one Scottish grandparent, so he's 3/4 English and 1/4 Scottish.
He also played for England's schoolboy team (as did Ryan Giggs) as he attended school in England.
Considering all this, England really seems the natural choice.

Apparently where Owen was born, Chester, England is very close to Wales.

He can't play for Wales, he's cap tied to England by having played in a senior team FIFA tournament (World Cup, Euro, etc). A player can play for a youth national team and not be tied to that country, but as soon as they play for the senior national team they're limited to playing only for that country.

Well, Billy did say "had he never played for England" so I'm sure he knew that he's no longer eligible to play for Wales.

Unless he defects for political reasons, right?

Had he never played for England, the only other country he "could" have played for is Scotland.

He was never eligible for Wales.

My Mum and Dad always go on about Bangor, they met there during the war. They were both evacuated to Welsh farms when Liverpool was being bombed. They were both about 11 or 12 at the time.

My Dad was pleased to leave though, when he came back his house was gone!! Bloody Germans.

I reckon you're suffering enough with that so called team that graces RFK stadium.

Legend has it that when Micheal Owen's Mum went in to labour his Dad insisted on ignoring the local hospital (in Wales) and driving the extra 15 miles to Chester (England) so that sonny jim could be born in England.

Probably nonsense though. I've not got kids, but I can just imagine the trouble I would experience if I tried that stunt at the precise moment that my fiancee were about to give birth. The child would have to be raised by a single mother ...

The child would have to be raised by a single mother ... Many moons ago I worked for Air New Zealand in Auckland and played for their football team.
Great team, we had players who had played for Chelsea, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, the company would fly us all around the Pacific basin to play. Fun days.
Bobby Campbell played left wing (He used to play for one of those obscure Scottish clubs) Put his pregnant wife on a plane going half way around the world so his son could be born in Scotland.
She’s probably too old to play for the Scottish Ladies team now.

So let's get back to more pressing issues. Will Mikey's new look help him? Or is it a sign that he is fading and deperately trying to find any sort of boost?

Personally, I wish he'd stop copying my look.

Maybe he's tired of being called the "boy wonder", so he's changing the image a bit. Just a thought (alright not a good one but still).
