One thing was pretty clear and that is that MLS must be pretty darned pleased with how this match looked on TV. We may not have desired to see someone else playing for the championship, but we damned well made sure that large chunks of orange seats were not in evidence on camera.
For all the grumbling about tickets that appeared prior to the match, the front office and supporters' clubs seemed to have done pretty well in the end. I don't recall any prior MLS Cup with the same visuals (ours of course had a predominant Black & Red tint).
Packed stands and a veritable sea of colors!
Perhaps even the mayor took notice.

Having both talked to Armas for a while that morning and then witnessed this in person shortly afterwards, I have to say that, however he was as a player, that dude is a cool MFer.
Incidentally, the team he played on got clobbered by a group of guys that were all good players, proving once again that the DP system doesn't work :)
I see that the Barra team came in third place, congrats gents!

I never heard who won (but I did call Goodwin at 9 am just to make sure the key ingredients where there-the US game and beer!) Thanks to the American Outlaws for coming out and helping with the viewing party. I hope people got to meet them this weekend (their website is here: http://www.theamericanoutlaws.com/)

Some random thoughts about MLS Cup from a visitor's perspective.
1) People not at the game had some interest about the game and knowledge about the league. Two different people on the subway asked who won the game, but I was surprised when one guy asked who the goal scorers were and the other asked who scored first.
2) RFK has horrible sight lines. Great stadium with United represented everywhere, but the DC Supporters deserve a new stadium where you can see much more of the game.
3) Have to laugh when the DC fans are telling the Houston supporters to cheer or to cheer louder. Its just a funny sight when you see the guy in the DC shirt shake his head because some other team's fans aren't loud enough. 8)

Honestly I was glad to see good number of Houston and Rev fans at the game, but their fan efforts were pathetic...The core group of Houston fans were standing right behind the Barra sections and there was mass silence for much of the game. I would turn around and most of them were standing there in silence. I didn't hear any noise from the Rev fans. Come on people its the finals, wake up! :D

Not a thought so much as some things I saw:
Saw Christian Gomez in the catwalk behind the press box. Also saw Ben Olsen in suit and tie. I guess he's recovered from his surgery? He'd cut his hair short as well, but I'm 99% sure it was Benny.
I was there with my best friend, who is a San Jose supporter. He was there to see his old team win one more before his old team comes back next year. We'd move down towards the front to see the ceremony. When we turned to leave we ran right into John Doyle and Frank Yallop who were headed for the pitch. We stopped him and chatted for about a minute and they were both very friendly and polite. I'm guessing he was there to congratulate his old team and maybe put a bug in the ear of some players he'd like to see back in SJ.
All in all it was a great day other than I spilled mustard on my Reading FC jersey....it came out though.

BTW - Can you think of any other professional sport where a star of the caliber of Chris Armas would just jump into a pick-up game with fans? How great is that?
