Y'all know the drill. Post your near-news and rumors here. If something turns into real news, then we'll break it out into its own thread.

I should neg rep you for posting that during a work day.
However, it's not a critter, but it works. Even Steven.

It is too a critter. It's a chicken. Shown just outside its native habitat: a tandoor oven.

Listening to the podcast of World Soccer Daily last week (or maybe the week before), someone called in with the rumor that the JS Veron's wife was shopping for houses in N. Virginia.

You know, that was my original thinking as well. And then I started thinking about the last MLS off-season (signing of Beckham, trading of Adu, superdraft, expansion draft, all sorts of personnel changes just for United--let alone other teams) and my mind began to change.
This year we have news about Gomez and Moreno, status of Veron, other foreign signings likely for DCU (combination of our allocation expiring, plus Payne finding the season results unacceptable, plus the scouting in S. America of talent, plus the needs identified by the team), plus expansion team results (and I think TFC set the precedent for a lot of "trade and draft" approaches) plus the most superdraft picks DCU has had since 2003.
The more I think about this season, the more I think it was mostly about depth. Lack of depth meant poor form at the end of the season and an early MLS Cup exit. Our scouting, signing, drafting and clever GM work in this offseason will determine how far we go in our various trials once the season starts. This is a very important time for United.

I haven't seen this previously reported, but the article below says that CONCACAF won't be holding the Champion's Cup tournament next spring, and will instead replace it with a 24-team tournament beginning in August.

Other threads are noting that while CONCACAF will have a Champions League from Aug 2008 to Spring 2009, they will still have the Champions Cup this spring (2008) but that this will be the last one - Since this is mostly pre-season, its not a not necessarily a cause for congestion

So that means we have a chance to compete for/win/lose a total of 6/7 titles next year?
Champions Cup
Champions League
Open Cup
Supporters Shield
MLS Cup
Superliga
SudenAmerica?
That seems a bit drastic even to me.
Am I missing any?
*Atlantic Cup doesn't count as it's really not a competition

In the event that we again qualify for Copa Sudamerica via the Champion's Cup, does this mean we'll have to skip it?
In some respects, I'd rather play in Copa Sudamerica then this new CONCACAF tournament (if it indeed really goes off this time).

I love this time of year.
Fact: DC United is winless in elimination competitions since Kevin Ara left the roster.
Everyone on the board is concerned about who DC will lose in the expansion draft but in my opinion they should be worried about getting Ara back on the team. That is, if DC ara going to be a team that wants to compete for trophies.

Well that's Kevin Ara's own fault. He needs to get himself a blogsite.

On other parts of the board, there are doubts about the economic viability of a CONCACAF Champions Leagues - Travel will be quite expensive for the small Caribeean and Central American clubs - If its groups of 4 and Home-Away against each opponent, thats 3 trips - CONCACAF may have voted for this, but it might not happen or will have to be designed differently than UEFA

Not so, we have a number of wins in the CCC and SuperLiga this year and even the MLS Cup and USOC in 2006.
And here's my rumor: SJ will trade Brian Carroll but unfortunately not to us.

Show me trophies from elimination tournaments/playoffs since Ara's departure, please.
