Not the way to see the country you follow be knocked out of the competition, after doing so well and leading the group for so long.

Normally I tend to defend bad refereeing decisions where possible but lately I am starting to despise some refs for making such calls.

When a decision doesn't go the way you want in most cases you can at least see a counter argument or just put it down to a 50/50 incident, some you win some you lose. But in this case I just cannot understand where the decision has come from. There is no angle a ref can see this that would make it look like an Italy free kick. The linesman doesn't even have that excuse. He is right by it and flags it for Italy.

Even the Italy player makes no attempt to retrieve the ball and runs off not expecting the decision to go his way. He knows it was a deliberate foul.

It's too late now and decisions like this ruin games and tournaments. Like I said I normally try to defend refereeing where I can but this is impossible to. To think that they don't want technology brought into the game because they don't want their decisions undermined. Looking at this I think it's about time we started undermining their decisions!!

It's a shocker and I agree with you.
You can bet that if fabregas, henry, cannavaro etc had been flung off the ball like that they would have won the free kick immediately. where were the linesmen from?

The ref was from Spain so I assume that the linesman was too.

What annoys me about these things is the refs complain about how they are treated (which I agree is wrong) but then act no better themselves.

When they make a wrong call why don't they at least step forward after the game and admit it with an apology? We all accept they will make mistakes but how can they expect respect when they are too arrogant themselves to admit their own errors?

My guess is that they would then have to admit that the benefits of watching a replay after the game helped them realise their error and this would force them to agree with technology being introduced into the game.

Gotta feel sorry for Scotland with that call, what a shocker! maybe the linesman & referee had a few bob on an Italian win.
