View Full Version : Sold out in Seattle? Not even close in L.A.?

It seems like the 90K cavernous L.A. Coliseum (Masoleum as we call it here in L.A.) is not close to selling out for the Club America game. That would be embarassing if there were like 35,000 for this game -- 35,000 in this stadium looks empty.

I read 65K sold in one article and 40K in another today so who knows???
Remember also that there are always large walk-up crowds for Mexican team matches in LA no matter whom they are playing or ticket demand.

I have seen conflicting reports of when the match with Club America starts. Ticketmaster.com says it begins at 4 PM CST and the Man U. site says it starts at 2 PM CST. Does anybody have a definitive answer? Thanks for your help.

The game time went from 2pm to 3pm to now 4pm PT, which would be 6pm CT?

If the 65K sold I heard 2 days ago is true then it might be close to a sell out as they might be using the scaled down capacity. They rarely use the peristile end of the place anymore. I'm not sure what soccer capacity is there with the usual configuration they use now.

Wouldn't embarris me at all. Man U and Club America don't sell out. That's fine by me. None of that money is going towards American soccer.

Yes but if we ever want them to come back, we'll want to make sure they play in full stadiums. I'm sure they want to make as much money as possible.

They will not come back in the near future unless they get good crowds. There are plenty of places for United to Tour, after all they have a global fan base.It may be 3-5 years before they come back. Having Nike as a main sponsor may help.

la coliseum capacity is only about 65,000 now. the lace was scaled back (seats eliminated) about 10 years ago. i've been inside the place once. its old and sort of a dump, but very historic. right next to the ghetto. i didn't see a game there, i was in la and i driove to the place just to see it. a guy let me walk around it. i also walked around the rose bowl that way. the rose bowl is a gorgeous setting. la coliseum not nearly as nice

Part of the Nike deal includes another US tour by 2005. There are rumours that United will alternate between a Far East Tour and a US Tour every other year.

I was there yesterday. There were about 57,000 there. It was just about capacity as they don't use seats in one endzone anymore.
Looked like Club America fans were going to dominate in early setting, but Man U fans showed up in force. Fun match

The middle portions were pretty packed but towards the end zone where there are seats (where the Club America rooting section was -- in the nose bleeds -- not the side where they took out the end zone bleachers), there was a substantial amount of empties.
