Probably WAY premature to think about this, and I've seen similar threads started by other team's supporters groups, but what do you all think of having a 'Y.N.W.A."/"Forever Blowing Bubbles"-type anthem that gets sung after the national anthem right before the game?
I think it could be very cool if the proper song was picked....just sung as is, and not "sounderized".
Any ideas?
I saw someone on a different thread suggest Singing in the Rain. would work for a Seattle team with our reputation for always raining, and it something that a lot of people know.
Any other suggestions....

I had suggested Milli Vanilli's Blame it on the Rain :p
.... ducks the whole of Qwest field being thrown at him

"With A Little Help From My Friends" could be sung by everybody, and it has that good vibe to it.
Or if it's just the supporter's section song, then "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the local flavor or "Iron Man" (singing the guitar part as well as the lyrics) to bring some doom to the proceedings :)

"Seattle" by Pery Como
The bluest skies you've ever seen are in seattle
And the hills the greenest green, in seattle
Like a beautiful child, growing up, free an' wild
Full of hopes an' full of fears, full of laughter, full of tears
Full of dreams to last the years, in seattle
. . . in seattle!

"Bluest skies" is not a bad choice at all for a non-aggro song.
ECS has tended toward punk/oi songs since the lyrics and accompanying tunes are generally pretty short/easy to pick up on. Grunge songs from the 90's are kinda tough to adapt to terrace chants... the one possible exception might be chorus portion of Pearl Jam's "Alive"... perhaps to be sung after we've come back to equalize from a deficit

I suppose 'Flavor of the Month' by the Young Fresh Fellows is out...
The chorus to 'Ty Cobb' would work for me.

Since the owners pledged to have a team that plays fast, entertaining, attacking footy...
'With the Lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now entertain us....."

Aggh, you're right. And I know better. Sorry, brain was clearly NOT working. Let's stick with 'Ty Cobb'.

Provided they choose the name "Sounders", then there is a perfect choice...
Old Settler's Song- AKA Acres of Clams
I've traveled all over this country
Prospecting and digging for gold;
I've tunneled, hydraulicked and cradled,
And I have been frequently sold.
So, rolling my grub in my blanket,
I left all my tools on the ground;
And started one morning to shank it
For the country they call Puget Sound —
Chorus
For the country they call Puget Sou-ou-ound,
For the country they call Puget Sound,
I started one morning to shank it
For the country they call Puget Sound.
And now that I'm used to the climate,
I think that if a man ever found
A place to live easy and happy,
That Eden is on Puget Sound.
No longer the slave of ambition,
I laugh at the world and its shams
As I think of my pleasant condition,
In a country they call Puget Sound—
Chorus
In a country they call Puget Sou-ou-ound,
In a country they call Puget Sound,
I think of my pleasant condition,
In a country they call Puget Sound.

I agree...this song would be perfect! I remember some of the old Ivar's songs from the TV and was thining there's probably one that would work. Heck...it'd be good even if the name weren't Sounders.
All they need to do is, before each match use either canned music or a guest performer start out the song, have the words scrolling across the big-screen, encourage everyone to join in by the chorus. It may take a couple of seasons to totally catch on, but when it did, we'd have the most original/meaningful anthem in the league.

I dunno if putting words up on the jumbotron would get people singing... remember that "Goals goals goals" debacle that the USSF tried at national team games? Yeah the song was abysmal and never should have seen the light of day, but I don't know that the ppl outside supporters groups will sing though anytime soon.

Perry Como's "Seattle" would be great to sing. The cover band "Dudley Manlove" does a great updated rendition. The first stanza/ chorus stands alone, but anyone with some talent might want to take a crack at modifying the rest of the song. As a local act, they even might be receptive to working on a modified version themselves. I do have a contact with them if people think this concept would work.
Here is Perry's Version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTkDE_AkZ5Y
This is Paul Jensen, lead singer, this past summer at the market singing with other Seattle music people. This is not the DL version I recall, but then again I was always hammered when I saw them. I remember a lot more guitar and drums.

While we are on the topic of Seattle songs and bands, this article got me thinking about the potential for many Seattle are musicians to lend (or sell) their hand at a theme song.

You mean this old tune...
"The referee's a wanker!"
<clap> <clap> <clap> <clap>
"The referee's a wanker!"
Isn't good enough for an anthem?
How about?
"What the f*$%'s a Dynamo?"
<clap> <clap> <clap> <clap>
"What the f*$%'s a Dynamo?"
Anthems like this are all we need really aren't they? :)
