Dear DC United Big Soccer Community:

The DCenters (http://dcunitedblog.blogspot.com/), a D.C. United blog written by several faithful fans, was
recently nominated for USSoccer.COM's "Best Soccer Blog" award. (http://bestof2007-ussoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/Best%20Soccer%20Blog) We
typically don't promote ourselves in these boards, since blog-pimping
is always a bit tawdry, but in this case we are making an exception.
We're asking for your help.

The DCenters is run for no profit, and no money, and fueled pretty
much entirely by our passion for the team. We're up against some big
media blogs (Ives, Goff, the official MNT and WNT blogs), and that
makes us a long shot. But we know that's no excuse, we want to win
this thing. If nothing else, since we expect United to win each and
every competition it is in, then we must ask the same of ourselves.
And that means pulling out every stop we can think of.

Please consider giving us your vote, and finding other to vote for us
as well. The internet was made for the crazed speculation and fandom
for people such as you -- people like us.

Mods, if you feel that this belongs in another forum, well, we dig it.

I voted for you even before your shameless plea!

The problem I have with voting for Goff's blog is that I honestly don't think it's that good a blog. Don't get me wrong: it's an excellent source of brief descriptions of breaking news, and often provides a lot of links to things elsewhere I'd like to see. But there's very little real analysis or extensive discussion in Goff's blog posts themselves. That's not surprising -- his job is to write newspaper articles rather than blog articles, so that's where that stuff goes. But the result is that the vast majority of his blog articles are "what's cool elsewhere," as well as brief discussion starters for the readers. That's not a bad thing, but it's also not the makings of a great blog, at least for me. I want authors who write a bit and stick their neck out.

Thanks Bootsy. We've decided to throw shame out the window this time. Of course, there wasn't that much of it to throw.

Next week we should be moving into the offseason schedule for us, which usually involved long analysis of stats with varying degrees of utility, unasked for advice on how to manage the team, and random diatribes as we feel motivated to write them.
