Many clubs in Spain are publicly owned. Club elections in Spain, especially for the presidency of a big club like Barcelona or Real Madrid, are bigger than the parliamentary elections.

Lots of pros and cons of public vs. private ownership. A publicly owned club can quickly disentegrate into to a non-stop series of mini-wars within the club's membership over direction that can paralyze the club on the field and lead to bankruptcy off the field. Versus network had a short "reality" series aobut Rusell Crowe's takeover of a publicly owned rugby league club in Australia. They made the playoffs for the first time in like 20 years in Crowe's first year as co-owner.

If I owned the team, a lot fewer of you would show up to matches.

Not meaning to troll, but during our yearly frustration, Crew fans (some) have half-heartedly floated this idea on our boards and gotten our heads handed to us by the BS mob. (Not like they were wrong, its extremely unlikely).

Keep your heads up. As much as I hate to say it, D.C. has head the best teams and most committed fans in the league, you deserve a stadium.

ok. so if 10,000 people put $10K each... according to my calculations, we can buy DCUnited easily with enough extra money to buy a DC politician. Then, after buying the politician off we open up the club for an IPO to get enough funds to get a stadium. not a crazy idea... I would do it. Who is with me? Payne would remain as prez.

another point... I would never approve a 27-28K seat stadium. 35k with the ability to convert to 45k would be more acceptable. That way, we can have the BEST sss in the USA that also happens to be OK to host a World Cup. And DCUnited fan base will grow short term (new stadium, new big signing) and long term (second generation fans).

Instead of buying the club, how about we put $$$ together to buy Riquelme, kinda like in the 80s when Napoli bought Maradona's transfer from Barcelona? I would say buy Messi, but I doubt we can put together that kind of cash and Messi will retire as a Barcelona player probably...

Buying the club won't do any good if the club doesn't have its own stadium - Get everybody together to BUY THE LAND - Then sell it to the team for $1 so they can build the stadium on it
