Ok, here's the deal:
- Bayern got linked through various sites with the Brasilian CB starlet Breno
e.g. http://www.sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idnoticia_PK=458316&idseccio_PK=805
- as usual this doesn't mean anything in 99,9%, but days later the loved BILD came up with the same story
http://www.bild.t-online.de/BTO/sport/bundesliga/vereine/bayern/2007/11/15/sao-paulo-star/rodrigo-borges,geo=2956300.html
- many people including me probably thought "just another hoax" since this does not seem to be a player bayern is known for being after. But the next day the BILD did it again with claiming the deal to be perfect
http://www.bild.t-online.de/BTO/sport/bundesliga/vereine/bayern/2007/11/15/sao-paulo-star/rodrigo-borges,geo=2956300.html
Bild facts in this story:
- the transfer got sealed today for 14 Mio Euro
- he is joining Bayern during the winter break
- he was praised by Elber our scout in Brasil and then Dremmler and Breitner took their trips to Brazil
- he is hailed as the best defender in Brazil and he is supposed to be only 18
- other german site took the bait and copied the last Bild news, others did some additional research
1. kicker: (but they didn't get a statement by bayern neither a denial nor confirmation)
http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/372043/
2. Welt:
http://www.welt.de/sport/article1370366/FC_Bayern_will_neuen_brasilianischen_Superstar.html
The Nr.2 is especially interesting becuase of some Rummenigge quotes regarding Breno the "Welt" could gather:
Rummenigge:
- "Yes, there is interest, the things get solved. We do our job."
- "Some papers today were quicker than the reality"
Verdict: Bayern's interest in Breno got finally confirmed by Rummenigge and also that there are negotiations and word under going to get things done, which is what the BILD got wrong. The transfer is not done yet!
Assumption: Given Bayern's typically secrecy in their recent transfers and Rummenigges sudden statements - which I did not expect to happen, but which obviously wouldn't have been made if things would be just only at the starting point - I assume and guess that the transfer is about 80% completed

i think bayern should get CB like kompany or mertesacker. in any case breno can become a great CB too i he could be next lucio. also if you see the starters CB's in the best teams you will see there isn't many CB's youngers than 25.

Officials of Sao Paulo made a trip to Germany, Italy and Spain this week to listen to the offers and returned to Brazil with Bayern's which met their transfer demands. Bayern don't want him to participate in the Copa Libertadores so that he can join them during the winterbreak.

nobody knows if we will be a great CB but bayern is interested in him and he will be welcomed for me.
the thing i can't understand is why he has to come during winterbreak: we already have 5 CB and see playing van buyten (1rst sub) is very dificult.
will van buyten leave in january if arrives breno?
with micho and lucio all is ok, breno will play some matches and ismaël if he isn't injured isn't bad to keep until summer.

i'm guessing that the transfer is nearly completed, and that the actual price will be quite a bit lower than the 14 million quoted
which happened about 5 or 6 different times last summer with all the signings
if this happens, then i think Ismael may leave in January

Exactly, there would be no use in holding on to Ismael if this dude comes during the winter break. I can see Hummels being loaned out as another possibility.
I don't know much about this brazilian but from what I've read, it sounds very promising.

I would be interested in learning more about Breno. He was listed by an English football magazine as one of the top 100 youth talents in the world. Does anyone know what type of defender he is?
I would not mind selling van Buyten during the winter window to recoup some of the 14€ transfer fee. Ismael could also be sold instead of letting him leave on a free.

I have heard good things about him as well, should be a good buy hopefully. I agree that Ismael needs to leave or VB if possible. I'd rather have this Breno kid as 3rd string to get some match practice for the future though, could be great!

Don't you think it is way too early to discuss the sell of players because of a player that isn't even signed yet! Anyway, this kid from Brazil seems to be the real deal, a defender that can play as CB and even on the side, that also has a similar offensive dynamic than Lucio, but who is much more skillful with the ball and in his passing game than Lucio

To be honest Duncan, I could care less about Ismael or Van Buyten. When Van Buyten played in CL, he looked like a total clown out in the field so I want him out as soon as possible. Ismael has been hurt for 11 months now, comes back and is injured instantly. These are players I would want to keep until they are replaced by another. Whether we get Breno, I want one of them out of Bayern in January. Hopefully, Ottl follows one of them and leaves in January as well.. :p

Getting money for Ismael would be the same as winning the lottery. Not likely to happen.

it doesn't matter what you care about or not. It only matters what Bayern managemt is doing and is known for doing and one thing they never have done so far is backstabbing a player that is coming back form a hard injury

That is true, I guess VB can leave then. :p

From what i have heard, Breno is good in the air, very strong physically and even as an 18 year old reads the game very well... an intelligent defender.
Weaknesses is a poor first touch and a penchant of going up to attack at every opportunity (hes brazilian u know).
on the plus he scored a fantastic solo goal against santos...so a big match player im guessing...
Lets see how much the real transfer is.

Please tell me we're not going to pay 14 Million € for a carbon copy of Lucio...

Exactly what I thought when I read that description. There has to be more to it than that.

The one thing that most sources say about him is that he passes the ball out of the defence intelligently, no just kicking it out. I don't really see how he could have done that if he runs up every time like lucio.
But by the time this guy has developed properly, lucio will also be a little bit older. We also have to think about his replacement, not just vB and ismael.

My club's management is stupid enough to do that......
