All of them have. The Reserve's games have been less frequent this past year due to security issues with fans ... those game usually were played prior to the 1st team games an would have needed to add 2+ extra hours of police duty.

Are these reserves matches mainly for the youth players or do they consist mainly of players who currently can't get into the first team becuase they are just recovering from an injury, lacking match practice or considered to be squad players?

Can anyone explain how the reserve team system in Argentina works?
What do the cuarta, quinta, sexta divisions etc..refer to?
Are they leagues for age groups and youth players?
Are the teams playing in these divisions youth teams or teams made up of squad players who can't get a game for the first team?
Is reserve team football relevant in Argentine Football?
CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME?

the way I see it: I know of boca having more that 6 categories (divisions), they make the team by ages (sample all 9 and 10yrs old in the same grp/team)
They keep moving thru the system and play in local tournaments, where other clubs with the same category or age club participates. To make the reserveteam you have to be one of the best, and they play among pro-players that wait a chance to make the main squad (here is no age requirement)
I believe that not every Club, enjoys the luxury to have a team in each division or category, that is why clubs with more tradition and money or better infrastructure produce more talented kids that eventually find a place in professional teams.
I got most of info from an article posted in the main forum about palermo and Pratto - one talented forward that just made the reserve team
cyclon can help us with sanLorenzo and the lower divisions?

Thanks efernandez. I must admit, I couldn't find information about reserve team football in Argentina anywhere.
So...the divisions represent the various age groups that a youth player plays in before getting to the first team.
Does anyone know whether young players start at the 9th division or the 4th division and what is the first age group? 9 - 10 years or 10 - 11 years?

Thanks efernandez. Does anyone know whether young players start at the 9th division or the 4th division and what is the first age group? 9 - 10 years or 10 - 11 years?
depends on the size of the club and economic interest
small clubs do not hold every category
big clubs have 'pininos' from 6 and 7yrs of age, (some times, one age grp is representing the club with 3 or 4 teams) the one I found was division 7 at boca;s youg squads - I do not know if there is 8 or 9th divisions

Yes they have the lower divisions there was a tv show that was called "Proyecto Crack" which talked about all this.....reserve teams used to play before the actual game and even a younger reserve team played before them.......now these lower divisions are being raided by european teams since the advent of messi that has gotten more aggressive

The playing of the reserve matches depend mostly if the away brings on a team to play. At times those matches are suspended to keep the pitch in good shape.
I think the 4th division would be a equivalent of a U21 team, while the 5th division a U19, then the rest are 1 year younger like 6th division is U18 and so on, i know the 4th division carries 2 years but unsure if it's either U21 or U20.
Regarding junior football, teams younger than the 9th division, some clubs have different categories for that, there are many clubs that concentrate on those, while some yet lack others.
In ESPN+ there's a program which shows goals of the reserve matches and youth matches, but i don't know its schedule nor what the program is called.

Thanks Andres,
That definitely gives me a better idea as to how the system works.

I don't think that all teams have reserve teams
I'm pretty sure San Martin (SJ) doesn't and some of the smaller clubs (possibly Olimpo)

I think most if not all do, the problem with those you mention is the travel too. Godoy Cruz was the reserve champions last season.
