Marc Burch had surgery on his left knee Thursday, and midfielder Ben Olsen is recovering from a Monday operation on his ankle.
Maybe I'm behind, but I didn't know either of these were coming. Ben's bad ankle? Anyone know about the details behind either of these? In any case, at least it sounds like they went well.

I had heard (I believe from Goff) that Benny was going to have spurs/calcium deposits cleaned out of his ankle(s) as he'd had trouble with them through out the year. My impression was that this proceedure was fairly straight forward. But with Benny's ankle history, you never know. I'm glad it went well.
This is the first I've heard of Burch's surgery. Does anyone know what was done? Recovery time?

You are dead on about Ben - he had spurs and deposits in his ankle which is what caused him to miss a few games in the second half of the year. I think his was pretty straight forward and is more to relieve the pain he was playing in but he should be good for next year.
Burch - first I have heard about this - I assume it may have just been to clean up some damage b/c if it was something serious we would have heard about it from Goff prior

He got his plica removed. It's basically a thin film in three or four parts of your knee that divides it up into different segments while you're a fetus. But it does nothing after that, just a thin membrane next to cartilage that is pretty much frictionless.
Sometimes it can get inflamed and swell up, with symptoms that present more like PFS or cartilage wear. I had heard it was a low percentage surgery (I'm contemplating getting it myself) but hopefully he has better doctors than I do with a clearer diagnosis. It could also mean there are more serious cartilage or other issues and this is more of an attempt. A more serious surgery e.g. might be like Bobby Convey's microfracture surgery, where they attempt to grow back cartilage in a specific worn spot. That could be six months out.
